Rampant Illiteracy at WDW

From reading this forum, I suspected that WDW attracts a disproportionate number of illiterate people, and today that was confirmed for me. Mr. Syndrome and I were waiting in line at MGM Guest Relations (the outside windows) to renew our APs. Silly me to choose to wait at the area clearly marked ENTER. A window opened, we walked up, and I hadn't even gotten the first two words out when a guy comes barreling up like a Mack truck and slams his stuff down on the ledge in front of me, snapping, "How DARE you! I was next!!"
Both I and the CM looked at him like he was nuts, as I had gone to the first window and she could clearly see where I had been waiting. She said, "The entrance is over there," and he started to snap something nasty to her but I chimed in, "Yeah, the place with the big ENTER sign." He started lambasting her about how he had been waiting at the exit (like that's her problem or mine...was he proud of his stupidity?), and she rolled her eyes and said "Whatever!" I said, "If it's so terribly important to him, I guess I'd better let him go." Hubby and I then spent out wait time snicking about the illiteracy and stupidity of vacationers...gee, I hope we weren't talking loud enough for him to overhear.
But the irony is, if I heard correctly, his beef was that he had purchased tickets with no park hopping and then had been denied entry at the Studio. Geez, talk about illiteracy! The concept of "one park" was well beyond him, let alone "Enter" and "Exit" (which I think I learned on "Sesame Steet").
It's amusing to see one in awhile as a guest, but I don't know how you CMs deal with it on a daily basis without going postal! Kudos to all of you!

Oh, jeez, don't get me started. That problem was rampant at Knott's. Especially at Calico Railroad, people couldn't figure out that if you want to board the train, you must walk through the depot to get in line. They'd be climbing over the queue fence, trying to get in through the exit when they weren't handicapped, or trying to unhook the chain which has a sign on it saying "Not an Entrance" on the side facing the midway, and "Not an Exit" on the side facing the queue. Never mind that there was a sign four feet high and two feet or so wide, white/yellow/black/red, with big letters saying "Calico Railroad" on it; over the door there would be the original entrance sign, saying "Train Entrance", and for the icing on the cake, there would be a green portable sign saying "Enter" posted out front. Amzing how people couldn't see those three signs! I've posted this elsewhere, but once I had a little girl, old enough to know better, who couldn't seem to understand what "Enter through the building" meant. Once we had a guy try to enter through the wrong door--leading into the Lost Child Center next door! And God forbid that anyone should read the rules on the back of the maps! Or notice the "No Smoking--Children at Play" signs throughout Camp Snoopy! Back to the train--there are these jokers who ask if they can ride with the engineer, or in the caboose (despite the "Train Crew Only" signs on the doors of the caboose and the chain seperating the gondola from the caboose). And at the Grand Sierra Scenic Railroad in Camp Snoopy, there would be those who either ask to ride in the locomotive, or in the conductor's seat (again, despite a red sign saying "Conductor Only"). And of course there are those who can't seem to read the ride requirements signs plainly in view at the entrance to the ride, giving ride rules and height requirements. I mean, if they're that freaking illiterate, how do they know where they are? Or how did they get here if they couldn't read the freeway signs? DUHHHH!!!!

One morning at the entrance ramp for the Monorails at Epcot:
Guest: Where is the Monorail?
Me:Right up this ramp here.
Guest: You people should really put some signs up around here. It's impossible to find anything.
Me: Like this six foot tall sign I'm standing next to that says "Monorails"??
Guest: Well, how was I supposed to see that??

Guests never seem to WANT to read while they're here. Take it from me, one of the few brave souls to work at Mission: SPACE. We've got that new "Less Intense Training" bit for those who don't want to spin, or fear for their own life... wonder why... *shrug*
Upon hearing the news of the introduction of this new *coughcough
cowardswayouthackcough* version, we were instructed to, when asked about the difference between More Intense and Less Intense (answer:DUH), refer the guests to a large 4'x3' sign explaining the difference between the two versions. When I told a mother, when asked said squestion, to refer to the signage, I got an "@$$hole" comment for my trouble. I've also been told "Don't f**kin' lecture me" when I inform guests that they entered the FASTPASS line with out a FASTPASS, even though there's a large "FASTPASS ENTRANCE" sign abouve the corresponding queue entrance.
