New [Disneyland] lunch break requirements

What does everyone think of the new lunch break policy (having to clock in and out). Personally my friends and I think it's a crock of crap. The union rep told me that whenever Disney does something "parkwide" they can't do shit to fight it so Disney gets away with putting in to place policies which there is no way to fight them and all of us get F'd.

Haven't heard of it yet. Don't we pretty much already do that with CDS?

Knott's employees have been required to clock in and out for their lunches for years.
I don't know if it is actually a state requirement to clock in and out for lunches (it probably depends on the type of job/work environment).
I imagine it will be tough to get to one of the employee dining rooms and have lunch all within the span of half an hour, especially if you have to fight the guests walking about. Not to mention the fact that those dining rooms are not exactly close to most of the work areas in DL.

This is a pretty standard policy at most places I've worked at over the years. (Knotts didn't do it when I was there, but that was over seven years ago, but both Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Universal do it.)

I was about to ask whether this was a Florida or California policy, but I suddenly remembered seeing them starting to install the time clocks before I left back in December.

The whole thing is completely fucking unnecessary. If you are really late for your break, your relief will let a lead know and you will get talked to. If you're lucky you will only get warned, if your relief is pissed, you will be disciplined. There is ABSOLUTELY NO reason for us to clock in and out.

Anyone that works in ODV knows that a 15 minute break is bullshit. It takes 2 or 3 minutes just to get backstage.

I am going to be such a cranky bitch when this starts up. I'm already fuming.

I'm not trying to be an ass here...just playing devil's advocate for a sec...

Remember the Walmart court case where the employees were asked to work through their breaks and lunches ?

Maybe having to clock in and out (or out and in) for lunch is something that came down from the California State Labor Board? Either that or WDC wants to have records that it is not withholding breaks and lunches to its employees. (I was going to say "abusing its employees..." but we already know they do that, right? ;) )

It could be a CYA policy for WDC.

Years ago, I was working for a defense subcontractor. The policy came down that we had to start listing our breaks and lunches on our time cards (paper timecards). Why? Well it turned out that the company was audited, and the auditors wanted to see that the employees did not charge time for breaks and lunch to the government contract (which is illegal). Breaks are "are the clock," but are still not supposed to be charged to the contract.

Just FYI.

EXACTLY! We are using our OWN TIME to get to our break/lunch. Couple that with the slow service we get at the Inn Between/Westside Diner, etc.. and you don't even have enough time to eat your lunch or sit down for a break.

That's all it is... Disney is covering their ass for screwing us over all these years.

Wanna hear something stupid? My friends and I have been having sore legs, backs, hips for a long time now since we have to stand for so long. I went to CFA to complain about this. So CFA treats me about 4 times and says there is nothing wrong with me and that I just need to exercise more to work up my leg muscles. They then send me to an outside orthopedist who does the same tests and say that I am fine. All they did was test my range of motion and crap. Well that wasn't what I was complaining about in the first place! So they close my case at CFA and I get a letter from Disney Worker's Comp stating that my injury is non occupational. What a crock of shit. My legs are still hurting. I'm gonna go back to CFA again and complain once again and if they try to say it's non occupational, i'm going to the union. I should have gone to the union the first time but I didn't like a dumbshit.

If they tell me that the new break/lunch schedule should fix the problem, i'm going to the union.

I'm kinda for the 15/30/15 since it will get us off our feet a little more, but the clocking in/out is bullshit!

I also don't like to clock in and out for breaks and lunches!! They want us to take our full 15s or 30s!! It takes the Inn - Between 15 just to make our food and we have about 15 min to eat it!!

Whoa Goose ,NO OFFENCE but try decaf. Last place I worked I was charged with a 1/2 hour lunch even though I was driving a truck all day long.Maybe 15 minutes between loads ,9 to 11 hrs a day. I finally bitched about it and they knocked it off. One job i had i got an hour for lunch ,but since i ate on site it was 20 minutes eating and 40 minutes of borbom. No i agree it does suck spending 1/2 your break period just going back and forth.P.S. after i bitched i would take 1/2 hour to 45 min. lunches on long out of town runs just as a payback.
