There is Only ONE Mickey!

I recieved the weirdest question today at work. Two teenagers (a boy and girl) came up to me when I was in the tunnel at MK and asked me....

Guest (Boy): How many Mickey's do you have at the four parks
Me (signaling the index finger): Only one (smiling)
G(B): Really? Are you sure?
M: Yes, there is only one Mickey Mouse at all four Disney Parks. He hops around from Park to Park.
Guests (Boy and Girl) were smiling with faces of disbelief and left.

What is it with today's youth. The do not believe in the Disney Magic. I remember that the CM's that were my Traditions hosts (a year ago sunday) told the group about this infamous question. It took me a year to finally answer it!

What were guests doing in the tunnels?

No no no.... Sorry, I need to clarify. The tunnels meaning the two walkways underneath the traintracks that guests walk through to enter and exit or sometimes block other guests from doing either. I did not mean the famous Utilidor "tunnel".

Guest's can take a tour of the Utilidors. Personally, I think it's stupid. We spend all this time, money, and energy keeping up the show and then say: "Well, if you want to pay more you can see backstage."

I get similar questions about Mickey and even people who seem to be "in the know" appreate my answers. The usual one is about Toontown closing early for fireworks, my reason is not for safety reason (Firework fallout) but a very simple Disney reason. "Well Mickey's not there, he's getting ready for Fantasmic, you know pressing his robes, finding his clean gloves."

How do you get a backstage look of Disney? You buy a backstage park hopper? You pay a CM big money? ...?

BTW, last weekend at Disneyland, while I was in line for Splash Mountain, people behind me were talking about POTC. The daughter said, what ride was that? Parent: ride so and so
Daughter: Oh yes, that was SO FAKE!!!!
I replied: You mean there is something fake about Disneyland???

Of course it IS fake, but come on, you are at Disney, you have to believe in Disney Magic, and pretend it's real, it's so much more fun then!!

And of course there is just one Mickey!!!!

(OK, I admit, when Cinderella said to me "Hello princess" when I wanted a picture with her, I thought "be normal, smile for the picture, and don't talk to me as if I am a small kid". But I don't mind being a small kid around Mickey or Minnie, haha!)

Oh my God, I'll be 20 in 7 months and I totally freaked when I saw Chip & Dale. :D: I love Disney, it's one of the few places left on the planet you can act like a kid and no one cares.

I'm twice that -- at the time of this photo on the left that I use as my avatar, I was 38; I'm an attorney, married with two kids, two cars, and a mortgage. Yes I know all about CM's "working with" the characters. But when I encountered "Captain Mickey" in an otherwise empty passageway aboard the Disney Wonder, none of that mattered -- for a whole minute, I had Mickey Mouse all to myself!

I know it's corny, but the "magic" still gets to me at times. 2-1/2 years after that picture, I still smile about it.

I am 26, and last Sunday, I had character breakfast with Minnie Mouse, and ate Mickey waffles! I was so happy with the picture I could take with Minnie!

Last year I celebrated my 25th Bday at DLRP, with a character breakfast with Mickey, and I was so happy to get a Bday hug from him!

I love Disney, and the fact that you are allowed to be young again!
