Stupid Guest Tricks

Alright, so new hire here, and a lot of the stuff you all are talking about sounds quite interesting, but I don't understand some of your abbreviations...so that's the first thing I think someone kind and caring (or not, doesn't really matter) should help me with...and anything interesting any of you think I should know/would like to know would be great too...

If you could give us an idea of which specific abbreviations are giving your problems, it would be easier to help you. It isn't netslang in general, is it? Or is it Disney related abbreviations like ADO (authorized day off) or CM (cast member) that are confusing you?

Very Important Acronyms
SGT = this website, StupidGuestTricks.com
CM = Cast Member
AP = Annual Passholder
RO = Ride Operator
EPCOT = Every Paycheck Comes On Thursday, Every Person Comes Out Tired, etc

Schedule related
ER = early release, you get to go home early
Extend = exactly what it sounds like ... your shift gets extended (combined with force to create force-extend, where you're extended when you really don't want to be and have no choice about it) (and yes, there are situations where you would WANT to be extended, believe it or not)
RDO = Regular Day Off (typically scheduled)
ADO = Authorized Day Off (typically requested on a day that is NOT your RDO)
ETR = Employee Time Recorder -- the person in the labor office who makes sure you get paid for the hours worked
DA = Deployment Assistant (may be WDW specific) - a labor office person who's more familiar with the specific area you work in, and can respond faster to area-specific staffing needs (including rotations)

ODF = Outdoor Foods (I think CA calls this ODV)
Attr = Attractions
Cust = Custodial
PAC = Parade Audience Control
GC = Guest Control (CA's equiv of PAC, as far as I can tell)

Employee Statuses
FT = Full Time
CR = Casual Regular (translation: part timer who works on a regular basis)
CT = Casual Temporary/Seasonal (part timer who only works a certain time of the year)
CP = College Program (CMs on the WDW College Program ... as far as status, CP is actually considered a seasonal role, but as far as scheduling, CPs generally get the equivalent of FT hours)

DL = Disney Land
CA = DL
MK = WDW's Magic Kingdom
ST or MGM = Disney-MGM Studios at WDW
AK = Disney's Animal Kingdom (WDW)

Attractions
TOT = Tower of Terror
RNRC = Rock N Roller Coaster
GMR = Great Movie Ride
TT = Test Track
SE = Spaceship Earth (or "The Big Golfball" if you prefer)
MS = Mission Space
SM = Splash Mountain
Space (at MK) = Space Mountain
Space (at Epcot) = Mission Space
BTM or BTMRR = Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
WDWRR or RR = Walt Disney World Railroad
Splash = Splash Mountain
POTC = Pirates of the Carribbean
HM = Haunted Mansion
Buzz = Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin
TTA = Tomorrowland Transit Authority (formerly the WEDWAY People Mover)
CoP = Carousel of Progress
Stitch = Complete waste of time, if the line's longer than 5 mins, SKIP THIS!

IASW = Hell on earth if you can't manage to tune out that damn song

Crap'o, people don’t use that stuff when speaking right? Is it that hard to say a full word? I can semi-understand it when typing however.

And aside from the acronyms, back in my day, the guys on the canoe dock came up with "Hermanology," which was a way of describing things in seeming everyday language that meant something else. For instance, a Herman was a really cute girl. A pee-wee Herman was underaged. I remember one of the "Guido Brothers" complaining about getting Pee-Wee'd on a grad nite - too many young girls trying to pick him up! We had lappers (kids that were small enough to sit on laps), wheelies (wheelchairs), nice hands (nice breasts), nice pockets (nice ass), etc. Not to be outdone, the girls had our own code. For instance, over at Pirates, we'd say tag boat 23, which meant there was a cute guy in the back boat, third row. There was a lot of other stuff, but I'd need Carlos to remind me what it was...

ahhh I've had to teach my non work friends hermanology, just so I could converse with them.

My roommate also told me another one I initially didn't know - called the "7-digit ADO" (Wait for it....think about it....dialing 7-digits.....) LOL!

In Resorts, we shorten many of the hotel names because we're constantly talking about them: The Grand Flo (or G-Flo), Poly, CBR, Pop, Music/Movies/Sports, DAK Lodge, etc.)

The hard part is trying to talk to "civilians" about work - like the day that I ended up doing OT as MK PAC because I got ER'd from Pop.....and then made a PS and met my roomies at DAK Lodge for dinner ;) Can't be bothered saying all of that in plain English! LOL!

For newbies and possibly DLR Cast in case it's not the same lingo on the Left Coast:

PS = Priority Seating (a dining reservation that's really not a reservation; your party is seated at the next available table that will acccomodate your group, as close to your PS time as possible)
