My NEW pet peeve:
GUESTS WHO THINK THEY CAN CHANGE PARK OPERATION!!

I mean, come on. Go to ANY of the passholder message forums and see what they write. On MouseInfo.com, they're currently thinking of ways to make Fantasmic GC and Pyro GC more efficient, including adding another showing of Fantasmic every night for the rest of the summer...

Also on the same page... "Should Rockit Mountain open along with Space Mountain?" It's pretty weird that guests sit around and banter about this and give their 2 cents on anything. This is NOT meant to be an attack on passholders, but do they think that they, as outsiders who do NOT know how scheduling and the departments function, can conjure up ingenius ideas (like sending all F! crows into Fantasyland) to make the park run more efficiently?? I'm sure the higher-ups, who actually know about the park, have thought about everything they list.

Frighteningly, there is a good chance that the higher-ups study those boards carefully.

In fact, it would not surprise me if some of the "crazy ideas" are posted by mgmt, just to see the reaction they get.

welcome to the world of public relations. companies don't ignore discussion boards, discussion boards are actually huge assets to large companies. how else will they know what's working or not? as far as management posting crazy ideas, it's been done. i wouldn't be surprised if the walt disney company was one of the first to do it.

shoot. i bet that there are some members of management on this discussion board.

An oldtimer from the studio told me about something that happened in the early 60's. Walt was on vacation and supposedly in Europe. In the meanwhile, the R.O.'s were threatening to strike. The geniuses left in charge while Walt was gone decided that they would play hardball with the union and bring in new people to work for less. It got to the point where it was 11:30 p.m. and the walkout was supposed to begin at 12:01 a.m. Walt came into the old Administration building conference room, where the geniuses were gathered planning their next move and said five words:

"Give them what they want."

The guys sputtered and stammered, and Walt reiterated, "Settle it."

So it seems to me that Walt wanted the cast members to be treated fairly, to receive a fair wage and a reasonable schedule. After all, back in the day, the park was closed two days a week in the off-season, so no one had to work silly hours. Even in the high season, they made sure to hire enough seasonals at a good rate that they didn't have to worry about not having enough bodies to fill the required shifts.

Of course, there was this little thing about having exceptionally high standards to get in the berm and paying a high wage, so that there was a waiting list to be hired (or you had to know someone), and always doing rehab/repair jobs in such a way that the magic was never revealed to the guests, and doing things right in the first place so no one would think of second guessing what the company did. But that's a few separate threads - and those passholes still wouldn't know the geniuine article from what they rant and rave about online.

I agree, let them stay to their own little message boards and give us some breathing space. If they are so knowledgable about how things should be, I would challenge them to plan, bankroll, build, open and continually run their own wonderful theme park from scratch. Oh yeah - they can't use any Disney characters, nor can they use ideas that have already been utilized by the existing theme parks... Now let's see them do something with that...
