Aretha was a character. When she played a show, she required payment, in cash, before she went on stage. She would put the cash in her purse, and carry it onstage with her, often placing it on or under the piano. As the story goes, it was not uncommon, early in her career, for unscrupulous promoters to run off with the box office money while the artist was on stage. Aretha was victim to this more than once, and put a stop to it by demanding payment before setting foot onstage. What a lady !

Former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has also passed away. He was once mistaken for Morgan Freeman while on vacation in Italy. He handled it with grace and humor.
