Can't defend the practice at all -- but it does come to mind that that last option might be seen as an improvement over the family ceasing to exist because of starvation. :(

When his voice cracked once while we were running through
Wimoweh in rehearsal, most of the shouts were to "Record his solo now!" -- but yes, the other option was floated by a few.

I can attest to this. He can't sing worth a toot. I can't really talk though, I can't carry a tune in a bucket myself. My brother got the musical talent in the family.

Funny thing about that is that I can carry a tune. So when I was in middle school and high school, I was in Ensemble. However, I was only there so the other guys could follow me, and then sing over me.

I so enjoy listening to others sing....because, to put it frankly, I cannot. Like Shorty, I can't carry a tune. I am totally tone deaf. Before I lost my hearing in my teens, my mother would ask me from time to time to stop singing with the radio. Yes, it was that bad.

Back in those days, very few families had only one son. Especially in western europe the norm was more towards large broods of kids. If youve got a dozen, 8 might make it to adulthood. So loosing one son to "the arts" may have made sense financially!

Larry is a real nice guy. He is godfather to my friend Bobs kids. Bob toured with Larry and recorded the Strange Animal album for him, among others.
We are very happy to see how Styx has been rejuvenated since he joined them!

On a similar topic, I came in to work tonight to find that we are transposing our star Billys' big numbers down tonight. Seems another one is out growing the part.
THis will be the 4th Bily since February whose voice caught up to his body. I hope they let this kid finish the run, he is one of our best.

No, Auto-Tune will *calibrate* your voice. You still have to stick the wrench down your throat and make the adjustments manually.
