Am I reading this wrong? You DROVE from Buffalo, NY to Orlando, FL in 4.5 hrs? Cause if so, I'm totally callin' B.S.! It takes me just shy of four hours to go from NYC to DC, and I'm young and stupid so I drive FAST!

By the way, not to rain on anyone's parade or be needlessly argumentative, but I'm not a huge fan of train travel. I've done a couple of train trips and it's never been very comfortable. I can't sleep with that rhythmic thump-THUMP, thump-THUMP... Beyond that, it's usually cheaper for me to fly (I'm good at finding deals online) so there's really no draw to the trains for me. No disrespect is intended to anyone, I know Zazu is a big train buff, and I can totally respect that if it's your thing, but it's not mine. But for my money (especially if it's LESS of my money) I'd rather hop on a plane and get my trip over with. Being there is the fun part, getting there is just something I have to do... (There are a couple of exceptions to this, like it's really fun to land in Nairobi as the sun rises and you're watching The Lion King on the plane... :p: But even then, what you'll do while you're there will be way better than how you got there.)

I am totally game for a trip on the WDW and DL railroads, though. Those are just good clean fun. I find I have a very different take on it as an attraction than as a mode of transportation. :)

Ya whippersnapper ya!! (hehehe) A train trip is FUN. and sometimes getting there is half of the fun. I have flown to much and it is becoming such a chore! We are even considering a driving vacation (now that time constraints will not be a factor) just to do the route 66 roadside attractions!

BTW they MUST have borrowed the Jetsons car for that trip!!!

Trains ROCK (Yup I said it) I take them as often as I can between DC, Phil and NYC but to Orlando its just too damn much thanks Id rather rip my own ears off than be caged up like that for hours with the kids and old folks ;)

Now the Disney trains just set my heart all a flitter but then again I'm a bit of a geek.

Kwahati you are right, heck sometimes it takes us 3 hours just to go from DC to F'burg with all the crazy traffic on 95

The park trains are fun. We got on the rear car at New Orleans Square. It was pretty full so when the conductor called out, "ALL ABOARD!" he got a round of applause and calls for an encore. He did it again which got looks of confusion from the other conductors and another round of applause from our car.

We did two complete loops before getting off.

What's even more fun on the Disney trains is to ask to ride in the back with the conductor if you're having a special day (like a birthday). The conductor will let you holler "ALL ABOARRRRRD" and you can get a little card, just like on the monorail, saying you were a guest conductor.
Can you tell I'm just a big kid at heart? (Like the rest of you here on this site)

I'm just a big kid. I have yet to decide what I want to be when I grow up. Stay crazy, stay young.

Thats good to know. One of the grandkids is having a birthday soon, and we were going to take them to DL for the day. That would be a great extra suprise! (especially if he gets to yell something loud!!)

Well, maybe I'd better qualify my previous comment. You can do that at WDW, I'm not sure about DL since I haven't been there since 1981.
I do think a west coast trip is in order. Let's see, Anaheim, then on to Maui, then to Portland to visit family, then a direct flight to Orlando (cheaper than from my home in Florida to Orlando). However, then we'd be stuck in Orlando without a way home. Oh darn!!!

I am sure BW would let you crash! Just bring some gifts from Hawaii!!! Since you would be "stuck" in Orlando, I am sure he could help you get some sort of work at WDW!!(hehehe)

On the train, the worst that they can do is say no, and its not a big deal. We can ALWAYS find something else to get their interest!! If nothing else, an excuse for some Mickey Ice Cream bars!! WooHooo!!

I gotta agree. It takes about 8 hours to get to WDW from Pensacola. Heck, it takes 3 to get to Tallahassee so 4.5 hours wouldn't get us much farther than that.

Have you ever gone on the Magic Behind Our Steam Trains tour at the MK? I went on that tour on my last trip and LOVED it. It was so much fin to learn all about the trains, to get to see the "roundhouse" (not actually round), and to see them test all the safety devices to make sure they work.

I'll have to remember that. I would love to do it. I was hoping to be chosen to either "conduct" the train at the beginning of the tour or to switch the tracks but I wasn't.

For some strange reason I couldn't get Kwahati's post to quote. Both selecting it for a multi-quote and clicking its quote button didn't do. Clicking it's quote button worked to get the Reply page with the other quotes but not his.
