I do apologize to everyone for being so defensive and forgot rule #1 of the Guide to SGs.

#1. Never argue with an SG as they always are right in their own minds even if their opinion could cause death, maiming, injury, damage to personnal property, job loss, jail time or other consequences. Tell them the facts and then let them say what ever the want but stick to the facts.

Ya know that rule goes the other way too. Guest should never argue with a rude CM. they are just power hungry and think they own the parks.

Note. That is not ALL CM's

First I'd like to make a note about something said earlier about the name of God. Observant Jews write it G*D on documents (and forums like this) when the document may or will be thrown out/edited/deleted. Only those documents with GOD spelled out are intended to be kept. This is because they regard the name of God so highly that nothing having the Divine Name spelled out can be discarded or destroyed in any manner. Omitting the "O" allows for the document to be destroyed, because the full name isn't on it. There's a book I saw in a library--I think it was the one in Anaheim, the Haskett library--titled "Ask the Rabbi"; it answers commonly asked questions about Judaism.BTW, did you know that the Hebrew language doesn't have any swear words?

Second, I agree, height rules must be adhered to. However, there are other factors to consider. I have read an account on ThemeparkInsider.com about a mentally disabled adult guest who managed to wiggle free of the lapbar of a Ferris Wheel at another park, and fell to his death. Obviously, one must consider the ability of a person with a mental defect --if I may use that term--to stay seated on the ride and not create a safety hazard. I still remember one harrowing incident, early in my career at Knott's, when I was operating Red Baron, a toddler managed to wiggle free of the seat belt, just seconds before I started the ride! I had a second, who went and got the crying child and took him to his mother. I don't know, but it seems like the longer I was there, the more guests wanted to disobey the rules. So glad I'm not there anymore.

Ok, I'm jumping in-
Why get angry at a cast member or any other service person for following the rules, and then call them power- hungry? I can understand frustration at the height situation, but you are barking up the wrong tree! Write to Disney's administration and explain your logic. I'm sure there plenty of ways to communicate to them your needs.
The other thing someone can do is just have some patience, kids grow up before you know it, and you will be sad that they are not little any more!
BTW, I am not a CM, I am a Registered Nurse.I sure do hate to get insulted/assaulted for things that are beyond my control...Don't You?

I never said that CM should ignore the rules. You people are getting all pissy over 1/8th of an inch. Get a damn life.

I bet next time you clock in 1/8th of a min early but they don't put it on your pay check. you'll bitch and complain.
sound to me like you need to re-read the rules here

I am almost able to be a CM (under 18 and i cant because i live too far away, i dont want a 9 hour drive to work)

I have been ignoring you because all you really say is "Cm's stink, they wont let kids ride huege rollercoasters because they can fall out because they are too short. Who really cares about the kid's safety as long as they get to ride the BIG rollercoasters, the ones they can fall out of."

I think that that rule was made to keep us safe and we should follow it.

While your complaining that kids that are too short to ride should ride, How about you also complain about why kids can not run in the freeways? and on the High Speed Train tracks?

It's sad to see that you would be so damn picky of such a fraction of an inch.

I thank God that my son is being raised to know right from wrong and to have respect for others.
Raised to know right from wrong? HA! BS! This coming from a person who would obviously complain to a CM if their child was too short to ride. I can see the conversation now...

You: "If you are too short to ride and the employees (pun intended here....people in the know know why I put employee in) won't let you on, throw a tantrum, cry, do whatever it takes. They are NOT gonna ruin OUR trip!"

Johnny: "ok dad"
I am sure kids get injured often do to stupid acts from parents. but damn come on people. For real. You all talk about stupid people on this site. but none of you are using your brains here.

Get a ruler and look at 1/8th of an inch. Now tell me that's going to kill someone.
Safety rules are put in place for a reason. Since you don't think safety rules mean anything, the next time you drive, don't wear a seatbelt and talk on the phone while you are driving. Oh wait...you probably already do that (judging from your posts).

Get a ruler and look at 1/8th of an inch. Now tell me that's going to kill someone.
In my line of work, it just may. 1/8" is the difference between a hit and a miss for me. And at a minimum weight of 26,000 lbs, not counting fuel, fluids, my weight, or up to 120 passengers, which can all bring my weight to higher than that of any semi truck without special placarding, 1/8" can make the difference whether your family ever gets to talk to you again. If you think I am power hungry, I won't try to argue with you. However, I understand and respect the power that I weild driving a bus: I have some control in the lives of hundreds of people in my hands at one time. If even one of those lives ended because of something I did irresponsibly, I would not last another day on this earth, probably by my own hand. That is the power I have, that in one instant, one bad decision, I can be the ending punctuation on the statement that is your life.

Any good CM in attractions has that same respect for what they are doing and the power they really do have over your life (note, I didn't just say fun day or whatever, I said life). By allowing your child through when they are too short, they are not properly exercising that power. It's a power that they didn't ask for when they were signing up, but now that they have it, they need to exercise it properly.

Having this power is something I mentally prepare for every day. I have had quite a few close calls in my years driving motor coaches, where someone around me did something stupid, and I had to make an awful decision: If someone dies in this situation, who will it be? Let me tell you, after you have been in that situation a few times and it gets close, you stop calling those who have to make decisions like that "power hungry".

If my opinion makes me an asshole, I welcome your coming flame. But for now, it's time for me to go to work and exercise that power, along with the rest of my "power hungry" coworkers who are working this afternoon.

My wife weilds this power over peoples' lives as well, as a lifeguard. For her training, she had to watch a video of what happens if she doesn't do her job properly. It was graphic, but not as graphic as what happens if a child comes out of their seat on Space Mountain. I remember an episode of Rescue 911, where a ride operator got his foot caught between the track and wheel, and it dragged him up the lift, catching him further, just about cutting off half his body. These attractions we have are something you do NOT want to mess around with.

Honestly, with an attitude like you have, I hope never to see you where I am working at Disney World. Because when I have to deal with SG's, their very lives are involved. Just as with those who work the height requirements in Attractions. It's just not so obvious with them.

I apologize for the last paragraph where I did flame you a bit, but where I come from, I'd rather have you complain about me at City Hall than accidentally kill you. And all my good fellow Cast members will agree with me.

On to other things really quickly...

Well said, Big Wallaby.

I will not even try to jump in after that, I can't even come close.

PapaMouse,

You really need to come to the parks more and just observe. Many Many CM"s bend over backwards to assist a guest in measuring their child. Suggesting to the child that he/she may want to stand up very straight, etc.

Rules are rules..........period. In this "I'll sue you world, one cannot make exceptions.

Apparently you can't read:

See. what those who are bitching at me are not seeing is that I am in no way saying that a guest should cheat to get around the rules. I 100% disagree with the OP in the other board for asking how to get around the rule.

I was just also commenting that it's silly for a CM to get picky over such a minute little thing as 1/8th of an inch.

And now that you have twice tried to tell me how to raise my children. Rather then comming down a level, I am simply fixing the situation...
