In the interest of clarification...
In my limited experience we "slaves" only appear to be slaves, well when we are slaving. No one would have called me a slave today.
Today I worked a grand total of an hour. The rest of the day I enjoyed with my kid. It's been that way all week. And I am entering a 3 week period that will more than likely be entirely work free. And that's not vacation... It is just a slow time of year. Some days are on my cel at Disneyland, some days are hanging with my kid. It's wildly unpredictable.
It's a trade off. I'm sure dhcalva has a similiar schedule.

etc.
No, I've got to back up dhcalva on this one. I've seen quite a few small companies with low margins or tight contracts where $36k and hour would not be an unreasonable loss estimate.
As opposed to the interruptions cause by cell phones going off (or being talked into) at inappropriate times, it strikes me that dhcalva is one guest who has found a reasonable balance between the unavoidable demands of business and the pursuit of happiness.
Of course, if she forgets to put it on vibrate and it goes off in the middle of Mickey's Philharmagic, I'll gladly stuff her thru the same hole by which Donald exits.... ;)

There is a big difference between "inconvenient" and "indispensible." It might be expensively inconvenient to lose $36,000 an hour, but unless that business is responsible for keeping the Earth on its rotational axis and we will all plunge into the sun if it ceases operation, you are not "indispensible." Lots of "indispensible" people have dropped dead, and perhaps their company (or the companies they serviced) were inconvenienced, but somehow the world found a way to carry on.

So, will the company erect a statue in your honor in the lobby or just outside the front door if you die: a) being "indispensable" while on vacation. b) while you are trying to get to work in a blizzard or other major storm?
Didn't think so.
Have a magical day.

Ok, everyone, I'm starting to smell smoke. Maybe we could get this thread closed? If I wanted to read a flamewar, I'd open up a post by DisneyLover, or go back to the Breastfeeding thread.

And now for something completely different . . . (okay, not completely)
I take my cell with me to WDW for one reason only - to be able to meet up with my teenaged daughters. Sometimes they go off by themselves, sometimes one of them will take her preschool brothers so I can ride something like TOT or BTM with the other one. I put it on vibrate, and wait until I've exited the ride for the following scintillating conversation:
"Where are you?"
"In front of Peter Pan"
"I'll be right there."
It also allows me to hire a babysitter and go to PI knowing that if there is a problem I am only a phone call away. Far better than being a SG with a child who should be in bed.
It has also come in handy when I have been running late for a PS - I'll call the restaurant and let them know we are still on our way.
Like all technology, it can be abused. But it is the SC, not the phones themselves, that are the problem.

Back when I did a lot of traveling for work, I'd get the occasional philosophical cab driver. One asked me if I died tomorrow would the company remember anything I’d done five years later.
I replied, “Five years? Try five minutes.”

On one of my first nights working, I was working Wishes. This man talking in his cell phone midshow walks up to me and askes me to turn the volume down. I was thinking these are live fireworks you cannot turn down the volume. Well I think this might also belong in the HYS thread. But the guy was just chatting away.

Hey, watch the language, kids! We don't need posters talking to each other in that tone.
