Both can be used. CDS uses only the usual military time. I know my times. All that counts as far as I'm concerned.

I have a stratum 2 clock under my desk at school just for the heck of it.

Guess you wouldn't like the sign in our parking lot that tells us that the secondary exit gate is open until 24:30 would you? ;) Sorry, I'm used to seeing 24:XX on my breaksheets so often at night, guess I'll do everyone a favor and put it as 00:XX.

RIP Bud Hurlbut.

You will be missed.

I refuse to acknowledge times past 2400. I can accept 2400 because 04 Sep 2010 @ 2400 and 05 Sep 2010 @ 0000 represent the same instant in time. But I will not accept 2401, or even 24:00:01.

Here as well. The usage is getting phased out, as far as I can tell. It's mostly the older forms and things generated by older systems that still have the wonky times.

I don't like it either.

12:00 IS NOON

its obvious that the bean counters couldn't figure out that at midnight, its a new day when using the 24 hour time designation (some people refer to it as Military time)

having used that method since the 70's to tell time and also to sync various electronic gear and devices (zulu time) its funny to see it used incorectly.

its like somebody saying "meet me at 22:00 P.M."

I guess its too hard to figure out that 27:00 is 03:00?

I am surprised that you would use this, as if there was ever some sort of dispute about working hours etc., a good come back would be that the time 27:00 dosn't exist by the generally accepted practice of a 24 hour time standard.

meh
TIME OUT....

OK....let's try this again.

The time and pay programs we use at WDW and DL have software glitches in them that screw up pay when you work a continuous shift past midnight (00:00).

So, we use 24:00 to 36:00 to help indicate that the CM is on a continuous shift for those hours.

Continuous shifts are problematic because:
** if you work over 8 hrs regardless of your status by Federal law you are paid time and a half OT for anything over 8 hrs in a continuous shift for that day.
** some contracts pay double time after 14 hrs continuous shift; others 16 hours.
** Premiums on your shift need to be carried for the duration of *that* continuous shift. Example: graveyard shift, coordinator pay, etc.

We, the human beings in this situation, know that 27:00 is 03:00 but the systems have major issues. So the humans being the brighter of the elements have adjusted to using times on schedules that run past 23:59 to 36:00 so CMs working these shifts can get paid correctly (usually).

Another one of those things that makes working as an hourly CM for Disney unique.

Oh and MainStreeter, I agree. Working before 13:00 is way to freaking early to start my day. Plus, we all know the really cool stuff happens after the sun goes down LOL

Totally agree all fun begins after sun down. I'd never live through nor believe later night events if I had 0800 - 1730 shifts. How very dull & colorless. Most have no clue. ;) Thanks for the Time & Labor 101. Too bad most will never make it to 102.
