Yep, behind the firewall, making contact with the beam about two feet behind the pilot's back.
There is the lever effect, but keep in mind that behind that wheel is another 25' of car before the next wheel. What I would imagine more is that it was the air ride suspension, and that it took time to build up enough to hold up the end of the nose cone.
I think I would have called in the grinding immediately. Do you remember which train you were in, Onerail?
