I just read both an announcement on a Disney fan site and a discussion on another board that WDW will be instituting an automatic 18 percent gratuity on all table service dining starting in January 2008.

There's some ambiguity about the new policy. Some are saying it only applies to DDE, while others are saying it applies across the board.

Some of the forum discussion was predictable. But, I'm sure this policy probably came about due to SGs taking the attitude that "I'll never see these people again anyway, so what does it matter to me to tip?"

Anyone taking any complaints from SGs about this yet? (Despite it not going into effect until next year.)

(First time poster; been lurking for quite a while)

*ducks*

:)

Hi Goofyjoe, I am sure the Marsupial Welcoming Committee will be along to welcome you officially!
Have fun here and do come back and post! As you have seen, it can be quite fun and exhilarating to post here. Take the Neverending Story for example. Actually quite fun!

Thanks for the kind welcome!

As a little background, I am from a DVC family  and I am an Annual Passholder   which will endear me to many around here :p: I'm 25 and, since our family went DVC four years ago, I try to take off work to go to WDW twice a year. Next trip is March 2008. I just got back a month ago from the Food and Wine Festival, among other things.

So, hopefully (?) this puts me in a position to witness various SGTs. I did not see much back in early October, other than the teenager who sat on the railing over the waterway next to Le Cellier and had his wallet fall out of his pocket and into the brook

Yep, they're applying the 18% to DDE, I got that e-mail too. So, that does it for me tipping 25% ever again... I like to tip very well, but I get rather insulted when I can't choose my percentage. And, with a tip already automatic, there is absolutely no reason for them to try to earn that tip.

I understand both sides of this issue. I know some people don't tip, but I've had servers see what I am tipping and their eyes go wide, as a direct result that I can tip based on merit.

Tsk, tsk, tsk.

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?
