Some guy who was in my gate was hacking up a lung, after he loads on the ride he says "Maybe this pneumonia hasn't gone away yet" to his wife. I was like what?! Now, I didn't think pneumonia was very contagious but 2 days later I'm in tower and start to feel like crap. I go home and try to sleep it off, by the next day I can hardly breathe so I go to the ER (I waited until like midnight of course...I'm stubborn). Lo and behold, I have pneumonia! Possibly 2 of the worst weeks of my life followed.

One of my fellow CMs who had never had chicken pox caught it from a child at Kid-Cot. I'm not 100% sure what happened but she called a coordinator after discovering this kid was infected with chicken pox!

I will never understand why people insist on coming to the parks or even going out with such severe illnesses...ugh.

There are viral forms of pneumonia that are probably contagious.

I paid $5,000 for this trip and by gosh I'm going to ride every ride and see every show and sneeze on as many boxes of popcorn as I want to, dadburn it!

UGH indeed. I didn't read the whole thread just tagging on at the end here, but anyone who knows me here knows that bringing kids to the park sick is a huge pet peeve of mine.

I have gotten so sick the past four trips in a row by day four that I am just about ready to only take three day trips anymore to WDW because after that, it's all downhill.

I ended up with bronchitis after our 07 trip and pneumonia after our last trip in April of 08. I was sick for a month. Add that to the list of my other issues going on and you know, it's really sad but I said to my husband just a couple days ago when my in laws asked us if we were planning a trip to WDW this year (not gonna happen, I really don't think) that even if I won a contest and was given a trip for free I'm too exhausted to take it. They'd have to wheel me into the park on a gurney and forget getting in and out of ride vehicles :(

I'm so glad we took our 'just us' trip last spring. Our tenth anniversary is in a few months but we took the 'big' trip then, knowing my sight and other health issues keep deteriorating.

I already felt very unwell most of our trip as it was (not contagious stuff just my own stupid body tricks) and I know exactly who I got sick from.

We were taking the monorail back from Epcot to the hotel, and we were loaded into a car (wheelchair accessible) with an older couple, clearly a grandma and grandpa. Soon as the train leaves, I look at the baby in the woman's arms and notice she's bright red. The woman says to her husband, "She's burning up, I told you we should've kept her at the room and let the others go on without us."

I knew, at that moment, I was doomed. and I remember, I was feeling okay (okay for me anyway)the next night and waiting for my husband to bring our food to the table at the LTT and then as if someone flipped a switch, my throat started burning like it was being blowtorched.

Thankfully we came home the next morning and I wasn't really sick until after we got back. But I don't even remember the three days after we got home. Husband says he woke me up periodically to feed me soup and give me medicine. I honestly don't remember anything until the antibiotics kicked in.

I have actually considered wearing a mask in the parks at this point...it's just so freaking frustrating.

And as everybody knows- I had chicken pox as a child but caught them again at WDW at the age of 24: the same trip I brought home my daughter as 'souviner'. I had the spots before the positive test but I knew I was pregnant. My doctor said "there's nothing we can do". I had had two miscarriages already. It's a miracle she was all right though they didn't know if she'd have fingers and toes because she curled them on the ultrasound- we had to wait until she was born to find out.

My mom had mumps when she was expecting me and they expect a lot of my health problems are due to it. I would never, ever go to WDW if I knew I was pregnant and expose myself and my baby to all those people. I see pregnant women in the parks and...worry for them.

I remember a couple times when I was working at Knott's that there would be Japanese guests in the park, and they would be wearing face masks. That meant they had colds, and were trying not to spread them. Why can't other people be as considerate? Though I'm not an Japanophile, or Japanophobe, I think we could prevent alot of infections if instead of shaking hands, we bowed to people instead. When a Japanese person bowed to me after I helped them, I bowed back as a courtesy. We Americans, I'm afraid, have gotten so busy trying to cram so much living into our lives, we not only run ourselves down but we ignore common sense rules about keeping ourselves healthy, and one of those is if you're sick, stay home in bed until you recover!

When I had to fly a lot for work, DW got some fleece and made me a blanket, and a bag to put it in, and of course, stitched my initials on it.

the bad part was that I couldn't use it when I was flying!

When you have as many people going through the train stations as Japan does, you do what you can. Not all of those people are sick, some wear it as a precaution ;) We do have one guy here at the office that wears one when he is sick. I appreciate it, but I work in a secured area of our office with limited access. That means we don't have everyone and their dog coming through, but it also means that one person gets sick and it gets passed around :/

Corey's Disney cold and flu tip #1

Take lots of Airborne or Zipfizz with you on your trips,
Take it at the first sign of any cold or flu symtoms.
It's a imunune system booster, but, you have to take it Before the viruses
get a full hold on you. and everyday after as needed.

I use it and it saved me more then once. even from my own stupidity too.
in the summer I rode Splash Mountain like 25 times in a row,
so it was burning hot outside the ride, freezing air conditioning inside the ride,
and getting wet on the ride then running thru these conditions over and over.
I splashed untill I was squishy....

ahhh, the sick guests...still a wonder why "some" of them think of coughing, sneezing, maybe up to the point of puking.

I know the Cast Member that BW is talking about (the CM has told me the MSRA story also...it's scary!). thankfully, the worst thing that I had caught from a guest was a upper respiratory infection (that would've turned into bronchitis if I waited to see a doctor another day). Also thankfully that incident was a year ago.

I try to avoid getting sick by washing my hands everytime I use the restroom (that is basically every two hours--break time basically). I also try to stay hydrated at all times and sleep as much as possible. I also try to take as much vit. C as possible.

I have been successful for far (not getting sick that is) this year. Now saying that, I have a funny feeling that I'm a ticking time bomb....

I understand that 1 in 4 persons in the general public is colonized with MRSA.
Now guess which ones!
