I was kinda right. There has been failures but they're hardware. The clamp that seals the camera inside is breaking. My friend went for a dive and saw bubbles coming off the camera. By the time he got to the surface the camera was ruined. His diving partner had the same problem. GoPro stepped up and replaced both units free of charge.

I'm on Maui. The lava flow is an hour flight and probably three hours of driving from where I live.

I knew it. Although I'm surprised there weren't any pictures of dancing a hula with Stitch.

Sunday is junior sailing team practice day. We showed up at our facility to find there was no wind. Kids arrived, lotsa talking and still no wind. Some of the kids asked if I could take them whale watching on my power boat. Why not!

Got the boat in the water, loaded up all the kids and headed out. It's early in the season so the whales are few and far between. After cruising for a while we came across a mama and brand new baby who was probably just a few hours old based on the size of its tail.

All of the kids except CeCe were up on the bow watching the whales as we followed them. CeCe was sitting in the center seat looking off to the side. She suddenly sung out, "There's a shark!"

I looked over the side and saw what I first thought was a dolphin about ten feet below us emerging from under the boat. A second look confirmed it was a shark and, seeing the stripes on its side, a tiger shark. These are mean fish. He was about twelve feet long and just cruising along.

I turned the boat around and caught up to him so all the kids could see him. They were all pretty impressed.

We finally returned to the mama and baby whale. Three of the kids took turns using goggles and getting into the water to see how big they really are. One girl stuck her head under water and came up screaming and clawing her way back into the boat. She said the mama was bigger than a semi truck. Pretty funny.

I talked to a few of the tour boat guys when we got back to the ramp about seeing the tiger shark. They all said they'd been doing tours there for years and had never seen one. They all thought it was pretty cool for the kids to see one.
