And another of my favorites:

"Awwww, I'd hate to tell you this, but your shirt has Pooh on it!"

If you're a really good actor, you can really get people freaked out about that one if you know how to sell it. Then when it dawns on them what you've just said, they get this look of "you got me" on their face.


Another one:

G: "Is there a height limit on this ride?"
Me: "Yep. You have to be at least three inches tall."

Sometimes it takes them a full ten-count before they realize what I just said.

not at all in my book. but there've been times where a guest says "thanks, that was funny" and the reply was "make sure to stop by city hall and tell them that, it's the brick building on the right hand side as you exit the park, and don't forget my name is john." (name changed to protect someone not named john.) while it worked I just felt it wasn't right.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I refuse to resort to that. The way I see it, the managers and leads -- and most importantly me -- already know I'm doing a good job and have seen me in action many times.

Once I even had a manager come up to me in Tower and made sure to compliment my performance. Apparently he had been taking a VP on a tour of the park, and I was the only Greeter who was interacting with guests. Not sure if that's an exaggeration, but he did make sure to tell me about it when he was with me in Tower the next day.

So yesterday I was at Mansion (I haven't worked an attraction since grad nites) and I was giving my spiel in the ER (I actually remembered it) and afterwards a guest came up to me and complimented me on it. That made my day. Would I have liked the compliment from City Hall, but hey it doesn't matter that much. Out on the parade route I get complimented by my leads, managers, adventureland's managers and even the occasional guest. So I must be doing something right.

Easy.

To you only=Only you and the party knows about it.

City Hall=The party, you, Guest Relations, your managers/leads and possibly the rest of the crew will know (Since I know a lot of managers like to bring those things up at track talk)

So if someone is looking to inflate their already over sized ego, they'll suggest city hall...or their just trying to show off to the rest of the crew.

That's how I see it anyway

Gotcha. I'd rather hear it from the guest directly, that way I have an instant pick-me up and I can thank them in person for their compliment.

Here's one I've been using lately on the Columbia as the canoes pass us:

"Off to port, you can see Explorer Canoes. In our journeys to the Pacific Northwest, canoes like these used to come to our vessel to trade. We'd trade for sea otter pelts to take to China where we'd trade them for tea and silk. You could always tell which of the natives were deemed to be the laziest and least worthy, as they were forced to wear the gold shirts and brown pants."
