When I see a kid or adult on the chains, I come up to them, and usually say, "Just so you know, those chains aren't as strong as they look, and I'd hate to see you fall." They usually spring up, and it's not an issue again.

Amazing what getting yourself on the guests' side of the issue will do for you.

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

yeah, but the SG's will ignore even the nicest CM!! And then complain when you tell them something to protect them from harm!

Yes, but when a SG "breaks" the chain apart, they never seem to put it back together again... I've made it a game while in the Soarin' queue in Epcot to see how long it takes before I hear the unmistakable "ka-clink-clink" of the chains breaking apart. Happens at least once every time.
(I think I've heard the chains three times in one wait, actually. Which means that two people actually DID put the magnets back together again...only to have it broken apart by someone else when the line moved)

And I can't be the only one who fixes the broken chains they see when they're visiting the parks... Or am I?

If a button push is involved you could also add the "feature" of the chain connected to an electric fence box. Press button and timmy gets dumped on his....the ground while the chain tickles him with pulses of high voltage low current zaps. :D:

Actually the more I think of it there are lots of places this fence charger could be used. A wire mesh just under the soil surface of a planter (that is electrically insulated from the earth) attached to a fence charger would teach the Pee-in-the-planter folks why those of us in the mid west know to closely inspect the weeds you are about to water. (remember, electric current causes muscles to contract and so once started, you can't stop.:eek :)

Unless its little SG's who have "discovered" a new game!! and of course mom and dad will not correct timmy or tammy for fear of giving them a complex!!

As to the electric chains--forget about tickling them, where that would tickle them would cause, ahem, shall we say, a "protein spill" and perhaps both sexes making it a real game getting their jollies on the electric chain. :o:

I say, give 'em a jolt in the butt that they'll never forget, and not want to repeat! Fry 'em. I say1 Get 'em outta the gene pool!

You obviously have never come in contact with an electric livestock fence. It may be referred to as "tickling" but it is a tiny bit more entertaining than that. A casual brush can feel like a casual brush against a branding iron (but no burn mark). And it is a pulsing zap, about 2 pulses per second. Anyone who "gets jollies" from such a zap is WAY beyond enjoying anything that Disney would offer.

glendalais wrote:I am such a hypocrite, lol. I was waiting for the bus back to K-Lot today, when I realized that I was sitting and rocking on one of those chains at the Harbor Pointe bus stop....  :p: .

Bad glendalais. Bad!

Also, because of this, I've changed my Greeter spiel to include a warning not to sit, swing or hang from the rails. The result of this look out for the guest's safety, I had some guy accuse me of bad show and of ruining the magic by pointing it out ("it brings the outside world into Disneyland", or something to that effect).

How in the heck would having to bring in an Ambulance into the middle of Tomorrowland to attempt to save the life of a child who's gone and broken or cracked open something on the hard floor would be good, magic-enhancing, show?

Again, idiots, I tell you. Idiots.
I really don't get it. Is stupidity on the rise or are these people coming out of the woodwork because they see other lawsuits and think they will win big bucks from Disney's deep pockets? I NEVER am thinking about ways to make money off of the venue I am at, whether it be Disneyland, a grocery store or a skating rink. I believe safety should be first in everyone's, including the guest's minds. I know that Traditions puts Safety at the top of the list right before Courtesy, Show and Efficiency and it is as it should be. If you see some SG taking a header into the Sub Lagoon, then Safety should be the first thing to consider, not *On with the Show* And by telling the SGs that it is dangerous to lean, sit, spin and stand on their head like Criss Angel on the railings or chains is not bad show, it is the first thing EVERY business should be looking out for, for it's patrons. People will find ANY reason to get money, greed begets bad behavior and it seems they are going to the Parks looking for ways to make money from Disney, Not all SGs, just that special breed of SG that thinks this is their ticket out of the Trailer Park. The other SGs just make for good stories and bad shifts....
I thank every CM for giving me a safety spiel, they are trying to keep me in one piece, unbleeding and alive. :)
Take care and try to laugh it off, I am usually the first person you hear laughing at the poor sap who fell on his/her poor, wittle head.

p.s. as far as being a hypocrite, we all have those little moments. When you get to be my age, you can call them Senior Moments! ;)
