If they had a knowledge of science I would agree. But to blantently call me a liar after I called bullshit on a bullshitter, well, I'm calling it again. I want to see actual medical studies from medical journals that scientifically prove a point (not general knowledge of allergins, that info is available on friggen wikipedia for the love of FSM)

edited to add: Scientifically SUPPORT a point should have been said in my previous post. It's rare, if possible at all, (with an ever changing world of science) to scientifically PROVE anything.

You know, we *do* have a smiley for that. You don't have to use parentheses.

Got one for your little gang of friends, too: :choir:

I try to stay out of discusions about smoking once they go beyond a a dozen postings as this is one subject that can get a bit out of hand, even when it begins calmly and innocently. Smoking tends to bring out great passions and strong feelings. This can cause powerful disagreements as each side of the discussion may try to "convert" the other. This is VERY unlikely to happen. The trouble is only compounded when the discussion is via text as misreadings and misunderstandings can creep into the discussion. Then if a person responds to a post in a way that the poster of the post being responded to takes to be an attack on them personally, things can get way out of hand quickly.

We are all friends here. To allow things to come back to smiles all around might I suggest a short recess of this discussion for a few weeks. This will allow everyone to relax and calm the nerves. Meanwhile we can interact on other, more fun subjects, and renew our recognition of our friendship with each other. This is not a moratorium (which I have no right to call or enforce) but a call for a short breather.

The CDC site has a link from the Surgeon General on secondhand smoke if anyone is interested.

Also, if anyone read my entire post, I was trying to point out that in a hundred years, science and medicine may have advanced to the point where
everyone will go, "How primitive and idiotic they were in 2007!"

ICSP, I don't think anyone here is a liar, everyone just has a variety of experiences.

Damn you Midwesterners and your time difference to be able to read your word of the day toilet paper before us in the Rocky Mountain Region. I don't get to use that word for another 20 minutes (after midnight here). It's the rules of the TP.

<sighs> There are a Plethora of ambiguous and didactic lexis that that TP uses to edify us.

I write to the level of my audience. Just be glad I am not writing "see spot run". :D: :toncheek:

The scary part is that I really use such terms in speaking in person. Actually I tend to speak with a much larger vocabulary but I am such a terrible speller that some of what I say I have a hard time spelling, so I sometimes use 10 words where a single word would fit. :)

The scary part is that I actually understood every word of that sentence. "Lexis" I was able to pull from the surrounding text, coupled with previous knowledge that "lexicon" means "dictionary".

Geez, look at all those quote marks. I look like I'm turning Canadian, eh?

I love it when someone writes something with new words that I have to go look up.

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

I think maybe you should also tell everyone that link is not to a scientific study but to an interpretation of small portions of studies that were insignificant in the overall findings yet cause people that are on the lower level of the intelligence scale to believe without questioning.

That is what many rely on to push their agendas. We have seen that here on this thread by the "facts" some have presented

I personally can't wait until the facts on how obescity is worse than smoking becomes the next "cause" people fight for. I will ostracize any fat person that says they do not like cigarette smoke in a heartbeat. I guess it's not politically correct yet to say that being fat is the 2nd biggest preventable cause of death in the US...but it will be

What will some do then? I wish people would realize that they started the slippery slope and not complain when it bites them in their large arse....Don't blame us skinny non smokers that are still trying to keep people's rights intact when your fat ass (not you disneymom, "you" as in general) are denied large portions or insurance or even a job because it would cost the company too much to insure you for fear of diabetes or more medical problems...

OK, now you have me intrigued- which studies were interpreted, which insignificant portions of same were used to make the conclusions that the Surgeon General is using to manipulate the less intelligent people? I would really appreciate your findings as I am too busy on SGT to be an expert, I guess I thought that the people who read the studies could come to their own conclusions, but we need your help!
