Sorry to hear about the minor accident, Big. Hopefully the other driver will be fired, or at least recast to a non-driving position.
To me it is logical that backing those busses, especially at a crowded loading area, is a big no-no because of the lack of visibility behind you and all the people and vehicles around. He should have at least used his mirrors, not doing so was quite stupid. One should always look behind them when backing no matter the size of the vehicle, but especially in large vehicles like busses.

He should be re-cast to clean out the toilets after chili night.

Big Wallaby, That really sucks!
For management to say that this never happened is just rediculous, It did and no one should be sweeping this under the rug.
At last look, it is Disney Transport policy that a bus being backed up WILL have a spotter present. To back up without one, even if you know the coast is clear is contrary to policy and should be delt with.
While there are limited circumstances that I may backup without one (TTC while shuttling buses is one) I have years of experience backing large red vehicles into their bays.
With a bus, I don't backup in a load zone, I would never backup with guests on board UNLESS I have a spotter period.

Fun fact: the voice of Rufus is Nancy Cartwright, aka Bart Simpson. (See Churchy, you're learning about more than marsupials now!)
I have a hairless pussycat. and she is cute.

Cranbiz, I agree. I have similar experience to you, although not with big red trucks. I have had to back a half-million dollar Prevost to within six inches of a wall with no spotter, but that was a very different, controlled situation.
But hey, I learned a valuable lesson from all this: If the total damage is less than $500, it never really happened.

Backing is easy as I have been doing it since I was 15. 34 years this month I have been driving and dad said that I should always back the vehicles into the driveway. I have been backing motorhomes, cars, trucks, campers, trailers, and a sweeper withing a foot of posts and have rarely hit the fence and only once the wall.
We need to meet and have some contests to see who is the best at driving. I can drive anything but no more than 8 or was it 10 gears and I do not recall ever using air brakes. You do not mind if I keep my shoes off do you?

You have me beat on the gears. I can drive with four, five or six and reverse. As far as the air brakes, they're easy once you get the feel for the lag.

I try not to use brakes at all. They tend to slow me down for some reason.
Oh, and IMHO the other driver should be recast as a speed bump.

I feel like, if you purposely misread this post, that there's an obvious joke here...I just can't quite seem to put my finger on it...
BRWombat: good thought with the speed-bump recasting! Although, I must say, you're quite twisted for being the board's token good boy! :p:

I could drive a 10 speed, it's just a 5 speed times 2.
