welcome to sgt kevin! we hope to see you posting more...
i had always thought we'd had chicken pox as a kid and thought my kids had a natural immunity since they never seemed to catch them no matter how many times i'd exposed them to other kids who had them...so imagine my surprise when my daughter (16 at the time) came down with them...and so we fell like dominoes...my son was in a long leg cast (from toes to hip...he was 14), my younger daughter was 11...and me? we i came down with them on new year's eve...i was 35 and felt like i was dying...i wanted to...my older daughter who never wanted to stay home from school stayed home to take care of me (popsicle please), but i also ended up at the dr. to make sure i didn't get some kind of secondary infection...all this after having taken acutane for cystic acne (that started in my mid-20's) and dermabrasion...now i have some very nice pox scars  so much for the dermabrasion

I remember getting sick all the time at universal. You would be touching surfaces that 1000s of SGG's ( stupid germy guests) touch all day. And it wasn't exactly convient to wash your hands every 1hr or so. We didn't even have a sink in our break room. And 1/2 the time we didn't even have hand sanitizer. Could we bring in lysol wipes from home to wipe off the turnstyles, glasses trays, door knobs, clear coms and buttons? No, because it wasn't on the MSDS and was hazardous and etc. Would my manager get the Lysol approved? No, not this guy. So imagine touching 3D glasses from 1000s of guest that have been in their hair, on their face in their sweaty hands, their mouths and in some cases butt cracks AND not being able to wash your hands with out taking a 5 minute walk to the nearest sink. So people brought their mini sanitizers on caribeaners, which ran out in two days....
I had one coworker who loved to try on lost n found hats. A little to much, he ended up with lice.
I once had a guy couch/sneeze into my face as I was explaining the ride to him. It got in my mouth. My lead, who was standing right there when it happen said, "Enjoy whatever it was he has, cuz you now have it." 2 days later, sore throat and cough.

Re: Diseased Children...Ugh!!
I was just talking to someone in Monorails (for Doctor McKey, the Chief) who was telling me how he came down with that minor infection known as MRSA. After hearing his story, I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
Thankfully, he is still around to have told me about it... but from his description, I would bet he got within hours of dying.
I can't tell you how sick I got, several times, from parking strollers at Safari. One time that it happened, I was okay with the idea of dying if it would just stop the fever and pain.

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

I knew a CM pin trader who ended up in the hospital from kid germs on the pins. Anyhow someone on another board needs to change an adult so they asked about putting the person on the floor of a companion bathroom. Grossed me out. I could never be a janitor anywhere.

Every time someone comes down with a respiratory infection here on Maui it's usually due to hanging out with tourists. Avoid 'em like the plague!!Eeyore Tattoo wrote:Hummmmmmmm

Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.

Re: Diseased Children...Ugh!!
I use lots of hand sanitizer...but that still didn't save me last January. Some guy who was in my gate was hacking up a lung, after he loads on the ride he says "Maybe this pneumonia hasn't gone away yet" to his wife. I was like what?! Now, I didn't think pneumonia was very contagious but 2 days later I'm in tower and start to feel like crap. I go home and try to sleep it off, by the next day I can hardly breathe so I go to the ER (I waited until like midnight of course...I'm stubborn). Lo and behold, I have pneumonia! Possibly 2 of the worst weeks of my life followed.
One of my fellow CMs who had never had chicken pox caught it from a child at Kid-Cot. I'm not 100% sure what happened but she called a coordinator after discovering this kid was infected with chicken pox!
I will never understand why people insist on coming to the parks or even going out with such severe illnesses...ugh.
