Speaking of off-track, have you read about the theme park Enchanted Forest in Washington. They have a new computer-controlled ride where the individual cars move around and almost crash into each other]they do not have any tracks [/B]but a local GPS system and get individual directions from the computer.

Whoa -- when will Disney get this technology? And use it to it's fullest potential, where CMs can send individual cars careening out of the park??? Perfect for SG's of all stripes. :D:

They've had this technology for a while ;) GMR is kind of a precurser (though Universe of Energy is similar as I understand) that they use an embeded guide wire that sends out a RF frequency read by a scanner in the cars. Pooh's Hunny Hunt in Tokyo Disneyland (aka Heaven) uses the GPS system, as does the Aquatopia(sp?) attraction in Disney Sea. Toy Story Mania will use a system similar to the one in GMR.
BTW If I recall correctly, the first use of the embeded guidewire system is Danny the Dragon, designed for the short-lived Freedomland park. See the book "Roller Coasters, Flumes, and Flying Saucers"

I am reminded of a system they were talking about on all the tech shows years back. It was a system where, when you got on the freeway, you would pull to about six inches behind the car ahead of you and that would cause a computer system to take over. Your car would be controlled by the controls of the front car in the pack. This was supposed to make it so that the far left lane would be able to move much more quickly, as you would always brake perfectly and not hit the car ahead of you. Never mind the whole idea that your brakes might be more efficient than those of the car behind you... While I am glad that system didn't come into being, at the same time, it could be useful for driving long distances... would have been really nice when driving across the country to come work at Disney...
