That is so hilarious. I can still hear that gal from the movie "They're putting

And I use serial commas every day in my work. I even have "Eats, Shoots, and Leaves" on the shelf in case I feel like I have to look up some finer points on commas.

As someone who uses semi-colons daily, even in non-professional communication, and who furthermore appreciates the difference between dashes and hyphens, I am all for the use of the Oxford comma so long as it does not add confusion. I just never knew it was called that.

I LOVE
Eats, Shoots and Leaves. An awesome book.
Since we've put pictures into this conversation, I feel I must do the same. My favorite argument for the Oxford comma follows:
The attachment oxford.jpg is no longer available
And as for semi-colons, I use them regularly. They are especially useful for the list within a list.

Bless you, my son. You are walking the path of righteousness. Go ye forth and clarify your communications!

I also use semi-colons on a fairly regular basis. However, in some types of programming, it's required.

PLEASE CEASE ALL USE OF THE TERM 'COLON"
I think the term oxford comma is much better.
you see, after turning an, umm, advanced age, all references to colon cause an involuntary cringe!

I recently had a torn retina. The fix was using a laser to spot weld the flap to the back of the eye. Before the doctor started he said, "I've been told by other patients that this is the most painful procedure they've ever been through.'
I replied, "You're obviously too young to have experienced a sigmoidoscopy."
