Ticked me off more than it probably should have, since that was the first day of my vacation and I'd already been rammed by an ECV and "Journey into Imagination" went 101 while I was in the queue. The vacation got much better after that tho.

There was actually a line for Imagination? Clearly, the fates were aligned against you that day.

Yeah... there was. It wasn't that long, it was about 4 or 5 pm on the Day after Thanksgiving 2008, (if that makes any difference,) and I could see the load. I hadn't actually been on yet since they put Figment back so the Imagination Pavilion was my first stop when I got to Disney World after flying out that morning and taking the Magical Express to Pop Century to drop off my bags. Totally bummed when they told us to clear the queue because Figment had broken the ride goofing off.
I was able to walk on later that night after dinner and before I went to Illuminations. Went around twice, and then dumped a bunch of cash on Figment March that I had sent back to Pop Century. I <3 Figment.

You were sat with flashers? Surely that's more related to the Interesting People thread?

wasn't fastpass designed by disney not only to cut wait times for people that had them but for guests to also spend more time in the shops as opposed to waiting in line.
genius idea by disney.

Just be thankful they haven't turned the queues into shops yet!

Apparently you haven't seen Expedition Everest's queues, there are shops in them, albeit false shops that sell gear for climbing Everest.
Just don't give them any ideas.

Give me a break...it has been thought of and, in all likelihood, bantered about a goodly amount. If they could just figure out how to run charge cards without holding up the line, you can bet it would be there already.

Actually.....
This is one of the possibilities with the next generation access system. Each guest gets a wristband with an RFID chip in it. Add another chip to each merchandise item, and all you have to do to buy something is pick it up and walk out of the store with it!
The same chip gets you through turnstiles, into your room, confirms your FastPass status, and verifies you're tall enough for attractions.
And that's not even getting into the data mining opportunities, where crowding in Tomorrowland will lead to surprise Fastpasses for idle Adventureland attractions, merchandise offers based on where you spend your time, etc.
Ain't computers wunnerful?

DCA came up with "Hawkers" which have done a pretty darn good job of selling to people in line. Once they get mobile handheld credit card machines??
