One of our CP's had her last day today and I would LOVE to have kept her and sent 6 or 7 of the losers home. There are CP's and then there are "CP's". It is a shame that the good kids get tarnished with the same bad rep as the clowns.ZeroToHero wrote:I find it astounding that some of the people Disney accepts as College Programmers are no better (sometimes even worse) than the SGs they will have to deal with on a daily basis.
It gives people who do the CP looking for a networking opportunity, or for the love of the Mouse, or whatever good reason they have, a bad name, as previous people have said.
As for the parents who are asking the questions - is your kid actually interested in doing the program for their own benefit? Then why aren't they on here, looking up information? That's like when parents come into my place of work (actually, my ex-place of work, considering today was my last day!) and want information for their kid.
"Ma'am, your child is going to need to come in and talk to someone directly. No, he will not be in my department. We have no openings, and he doesn't have this as a choice anyway. *laughing* He'll be lucky if he gets a job at this point, if he's anything like you."
I heard somewhere that only half the people who start the CP finish it. I wouldn't be surprised if that was true, although, like most statistics, it's probably made up.

I agree, there are some doozies that make it into the CP. But I think a good majority are people who love Disney, and want to be there.ZeroToHero wrote:I find it astounding that some of the people Disney accepts as College Programmers are no better (sometimes even worse) than the SGs they will have to deal with on a daily basis.

As for people finishing the CP, I think the percentage of those that finish is higher then half. Unfortunately, quite a few do get termed (most due to stupid things, like underage drinking, or too many points at work).

I was really surprised when I read on some threads about what CPers they accept. Threads like "what if I don't have a min of 2.0" and "what if I have a conviction"? The answer was just have a great interviewjoanna71985 wrote:I agree, there are some doozies that make it into the CP. But I think a good majority are people who love Disney, and want to be there.

I believe that about 20% get termed, on average.ZeroToHero wrote:I heard somewhere that only half the people who start the CP finish it. I wouldn't be surprised if that was true, although, like most statistics, it's probably made up.
Varies a lot though. As a CR, I don't work when the CPs come rolling in each term. Some semesters I'm laid off for a couple of months, others I'm back in two weeks.
One term there was a huge beer bash at Vista Way the second weekend, and nearly 40% got the early return ticket. Why not more? The rest were working.

One of my friends got sent home today... I don't know the whole story, but I was shocked when I first heard it, because she always was to me the model of a Disney CM, and that she got sent home while others are still there is such a shame.Fitswimmer wrote:One of our CP's had her last day today and I would LOVE to have kept her and sent 6 or 7 of the losers home. Although the reasoning makes sense, it wasn't as bad as the things some others get away with, which is unfortunate.
And Zazu - I can't believe the number was that high! There must have been a lot of extra hours suddenly for Casuals to pick up...

Eh, I would have put that number higher. But he is right..that beer party wiped out everyone who was not working at the time.ZeroToHero wrote: And Zazu - I can't believe the number was that high! There must have been a lot of extra hours suddenly for Casuals to pick up...
I miss the days of PI just cause we would weed out a lot of them that had no business being here WAY earlier than we do now.
As for your friend, remember that you will never know the whole story. Karma mandates that those who have not been caught *yet* will get theirs eventually.
And yes, there are plenty of "CPs" that are CT, CR, and FT.
Follow the rules, enjoy your time, do not extend, and go home to graduate. Yup, too many extend and manage to get termed on the extension. Others are just too dumb to realize that the CP experience is not the FT experience when you are struggling to pay your bills.
Do not fall in the mouse trap. Get your degree and tell your kids about your experience when they get old enough to understand.

Yeah, I don't really like those posts. I wish they would bring back the in-person interviews (I did that on my first CP).lilogirl wrote:I was really surprised when I read on some threads about what CPers they accept. Hey, last week I went to negotiations for our new contract for foods.
CP will have the senority of 2006 new hires.
In QSR and Outdoor Vending they will get about 30 to 35 hours total. The higher rankek CM's get their hours.
