I'm glad I found you guys, I've been lurking over at another board and they were starting to me me think I was crazy... I've never demanded anything for free, never got my ese kids a GAC, don't think Harry Potter is a flop just because it's not a Disney. I also had a tendency towards sarcasm not everyone appreciates.

I figured this was a good place to jump in as well! No one gets my sense of humor either, and I tend to be painfully opinionated...but I swear I mean well! I have to get away from the other boards sometimes for the same reasons...I don't get how so many people can shoot pixie dust out of their butts 24 hours a day....I don't know about anyone else, but sometimes....I know it sounds crazy, but .....I get in a bad mood.

There is NO way you can tell people are able to stand during a bus ride. No one can see that I'm fighting cancer. I'm just back from the hospital and they found two new spots.
So you could demand to make me give a seat to somebody that is disabled and make me stand?

And please please lets not forget that many of the EVC users don't really need one. I'm still advocating the plain fact that Disney should ask for proof if some one is using the ADA law.

I remember when what is now OCTA--it was OCTD back in the late 70s--began, not all buses were equipped with wheelchair lifts. Now all buses are equipped. They also kneel, and by the seats in the front third of each bus is a notice in English and Spanish that it's a Federal law that those seats must be offered to the handicapped and elderly. If it's a Federal law, why isn't it imposed on other buses? Are buses in a park exempt somehow? That seems unfair.

Yeah I kinda have a problem with this as well. As far as I know I don't have a tattoo on my forehead with my issues. So if you look at me you would judge incorrectly that I can stand on a bus. (And I say you as a general "you" not to tick anyone off). I would have a major issue if I have waited for the next bus to insure that I had a seat and had a bus driver or anyone else for that matter try to shame me into giving up my seat.

Look, folks, these will be my final comments on the issue since I seem (once again) to have unintentionally unleashed a hornet's nest:

Everybody else: I personally don't advocate shaming anyone into giving up a seat because believe me- after dealing with my father's major cancer surgery and accompanying issues (while I was almost completely blind, I might add) I know that you cannot always tell when a person has disabilities by looking.

For years before I had the crutch, the joint and spine problems were there (the crutch is part of the lovely package of parting gifts I got from the stroke at age 29) but people couldn't see them. So again, I understand your position and your need for a seat.

I did not and would not ask anyone to give up a seat for me. Hence why I waited for more freaking busses- sometimes I wonder if anyone actually reads what I post. I do however feel, that just like on monorails, if there are signs that say that seats must be vacated for handicapped people that those signs should be enforced. If you cannot personally give up your seat, then don't! You know that you can't, that's all that matters.

I do think, however, in the spirit that I have taught my own child (who is now suffering health issues of her own and will have to sit on busses in future) and which my husband practices (even after a day pushing my chair around he only sits on a bus if everyone else has a seat already) that it would have been nice if someone on one of those busses had offered- willingly- to give up a seat.

I find it hard to believe that every single person on every single bus was incapable of standing.

I don't think I'm 'special'. That's why I just waited for another damned bus, no matter what they call us over the radio.

That's all I'm gonna add.

Well-said, Bru. My kids know better than to sit while someone else who needs the seat more stands. A little common sense and courtesy goes a long way.

I just asked a former driver this question to confirm what I thought. All Disney buses are equipped with either a lift or ramp (only older buses have lifts) though sometimes there might be a bus or two with a non-working lift.

When we were out there last Oct, we did see the lift working on the bus.

I have to disagree with you on this one Bru. No ones got a hate on for you here !

And I do agree with you regarding the fact that surely someone on those buses could have and should have given up their seat. I see this kind of ignorant behavior on the subway almost daily. It seems young able bodied males are the worst offenders on the trains. I stand every day, even if seats are open, I figure I am saving someone who needs a seat from standing. If I can stand , while in my 40's, I'll bet most of those high school kids can too.

Frankly, I find your courage, strength and fortitude an inspiration. Make no apology for who you are and what you have to deal with!
