If the crying koala didn't take up DisneyMom's day this should.

Okay all you computer geeks, I need your help again. Got my external hard drive out of storage, bought the recovery disks. I follow the directions, and in the final phase of recovery, after updating is 100% and then restore gets to about 50%, the screen goes black and my netbook shuts down. Now what? In case you've forgotten, it's an Acer Apire One D255E netbook running Windows 10. It's been a remarkably reliable machine for the 7 years I've had it, and I don't have the money to fix or replace it.

Sounds like you system is timing out from lack of keyboard/mouse input. This is normal and good for a screensaver, abnormal and bad for a power shutdown. Still, given that it's a portable computer, it may default to shutdown after a period of idleness.

Check the settings for screensaver and powersaver times. If you can't get to that screen, then just wiggle the mouse every minute or two and see if that keeps things alive long enough.

Just hit the shift key. Never hit enter to keep it awake or wake it up, learned that the hard way about 18-19 years ago...

Thanks. Will try that today--we don't have to go out today.
