Reminds me of a history teacher I had in high school, in Colorado. One class had us looking at the Battle of San Jacinto, where Sam Houston defeated Santa Anna. As a native Texan, I pronounced it San (same vowel sound as "sand") Jah-sin-toh. He corrected me that the proper pronunciation in Spanish would be Sahn Hah-seen-toh.

My reply? "That may be, but we won the war, we'll say it the way we want." (I wasn't always such a smart-aleck in school, but he ruffled my Texas pride!)

Not that any of this has any bearing on the correct pronunciation of California, of course... except that under my reasoning, you all may yet be saying it the Spanish way in years to come, if you get my drift.

The proper Latino way is to say it Ca li for ni a with short vowels.

Some latinos say Sahn and others say San. My stupid spanish teacher told us that gracias is pronounced "Grassy as" I am like if I walked up to someone in my neighborhood and said "Grassy as" they would laugh, stare at me or hit me.

Stduck wrote:Hehehe. Yup I did like what Dustin said Mansion California used to do to Mansion Florida till they found out it was us. I think this is a Here's Your Sign for us employees. According to Dustin after we obtained the number to Mansion Florida, Mansion California would call Mansion florida and say something to the effect of "Hi, this is so in so from the info board. Is your attraction running?" "Yes" "Then you better go catch it" click. This suposidily continued for weeks till Florida figured out it was California and sent nasty interdepartment mail with cut out letters that read "We know who you are" Needless to say I wanna call Florida just to say hi, but I am always there after MK is closed.
There's a guy working at Mansion in Florida who calls you guys all the time when he gets bored.

Do I understand correctly that ya'll have a tower?

This didn't happen at a Disney Park, but it belongs here:
I was at Baskin Robbins the other night and a lady walked up to the counter trying to order either a Banana Split or a Banana Royale Sundae. She looks at the menu-where a large photo of the Banana Royale was pictured- and asks the clerk:
Are there Bananas in the sundae? :hysteria:
The clerk just clamly replied no. I had a real hard time keeping a straight face. So many answers to this crazy question!
She didn't even know that a Banana Spilt has three scoops of ice cream. (Of which there was also a large picture on the wall.) Maybe it's just me, but I thought something like how many scoops in a Banana Spilt was common knowledge.

I like to be the Stupid Guest once in a while.

My car is clearly not a rental. The license tag is F1GMENT and I have a Save Disney bumper sticker on the rear bumper. I will use valet parking when available (I am disabled and have a HP placard but I do tip). Even with the kind of obvious that I am a local I am often asked by the valets (who don't know me as a regular) if I need directions.

I will always ask: "How do I get to Disneyland from here?" Generally the response will either be to the Magic Kingdom or the suggestion that I go to the airport.

Okay, I just got back from a short trip to Disneyland and am sure that I did something stupid, but here is one I noticed someone else do. We were getting ready to use our fastpass on TOT and a lady and her kid jumped in front of us and showed the CM their passes. Then she procedded to get on the phone to call the other people in her party to tell them it was time, while she was still in the way. The CM motioned her to the side and she went, but her kid who had the passes stayed and tried to keep going into the line. Not a big deal, but I hate it when you are obviously in line for something and someone jumps in front of you.

Me: Oh, we tore that one down a few hours ago.

Im not lying on this...

Guest: What?
Me: Here's Your Sign. You either drove, took a bus or took the boat to get here. We don't have a monorail here at the Studios.

3. Same guy from earlier:
Guest: Is this the line for SpectroMagic? (Asking about the Line for Fantasmic....for those of you who aren't WDW savvy, SpectroMagic is a parade at Magic Kingdom...Fantasmic! is at the Studios....theres a 10-15 mile difference between the Studios and the MK park itself)
Me: Nope, this is the line for that monorail we tore down earlier.

-How rude, you dont even know what I was going to ask.
-Given the situation, your about to ask if we have one from the Studios to Epcot.
-How did you know?
-Im physic, here's your sign.

I strongly suggest you don't pass judgment on us unless you've been in our shoes and have done it for a long time. I may not agree with the attitudes of some of the people who post here, or the people I used to work with, but Disney CMs do need a way to vent about their working conditions. Without it, I seriously think that a good chunk of us would turn to physical violence or other means of dealing with anger. In the four years I worked there I can't think of a single person who didn't complain about guests and/or working conditions at least once. It's how we deal with it that keeps us coming in every day. Unless we can joke and vent about the things we deal with, we'd never be able to go on working.

It is absolutely ludicrous to ask a Disney CM to go into work and "just deal with it." I know that a lot of people there hate the job, but I know that a lot of them love it too. And I seriously doubt that people who love the job love it because of the guests who think it's their right to be stupid. Even the nicest, most genuinely kind CM I worked with shared stories with me of guests he couldn't stand dealing with.
I agree wit SRT 100% I have never worked for Disny, but my father has. he was painter for the Grand Floridian. I have, however, worked customer service my whole working life. I could fill an entire message board with stories. People in general are rude and stupid and it takes alot of inner strength for us to put up with them.

I think EVERYONE in the world should have to work fast food or retial or some sort of customer service so they would understand.

I think this board is the greatest thing ever. As a Disney Guest I make sure when I visit I try to make a CM's day better. I have even gone as far as to stop and help them clean off tables in a eatery. The smile on their face and the "Thanks" is all I need.
DisneyLover wrote:It is not at all ludicrous to expect Disney CM's to treat guests in a respectable manner. If you must vent your frustrations, do so behind the scenes. IndyandMarion seems to make it a point to ridicule and mock the guests at every turn. THAT is what I find uncalled for. As a Disney shareholder, I'm disgusted to read the things he posted and I'm quite sure his bosses would not think highly of his statements, either.
Actualy I would say Indy does a wonderful job of venting toward guest. he doesn't yell at them and tell them they are too stupid to walk down main street, even though he would be very honset in doing so. The 50 + stories told on this board are just a small % of actual encounters CM's have. so to say that Indy "seems to make it a point to ridicule and mock the guests at every turn." is a false statment.

As far as your being a share holder. Good for you. I am glad you own stock. So do I. Many shares. But guess what. Your 1, 50, 100, or even 1,000 shares, mean NOHTING in the grand scheme of things.

And your comment "I'm quite sure his bosses would not think highly of his statements, either." I am willing to bet that alot of the CM's here are supervisors of many of the other members here and they laugh just as much.
DisneyLover wrote:You people just don't get it. You are either too ignorant or too arrogant to understand what I am saying. I will no longer waste my time arguing the point.

Enjoy your miserable jobs and I hope someday you are on the receiving end of IndyandMarion's behavior.
If they didn't have to deal with people like you, I am sure they would enjoy their jobs alot more.

Have a Magical day.
