Reminds me of a certain convention we had. We had been advised that the organization did not believe that we might not be able to get them a table on short notice, saying, "We never bother with reservations anywhere, and I'm sure we'll be fine!" So that was proof their management were morons.

One of their number comes to me about 9:45pm and asks for a table at "a good restaurant, somewhere we can get a nice steak". How many? "Oh, 12, 15, 20, we'll see."

A la carte and I give it a try. "I have a table for 12 at Shutters at Caribbean Beach at 10:30. You could make it if you take a cab."

"Oh no! We won't be eating until at least midnight."

<scribble scribble> "Here's the name of a restaurant that should be able to handle your group at midnight. Just give this to the cab driver -- Disney transportation won't be able to get you there."

"Thanks, you're the best!" he replied as he walked away with the address of the Perkins on 535.

Somehow, I don't think this group will be back. I hope not.

Sounds like the managers of a company I worked for. The company fell on hard times, a new CEO was brought in, and, after figuring out where the problems were, fired all the MBA's. It was an amazing turn around.

I couldn't resist. I googled "perkins 535 orlando" being unfamiliar with the area/reference. What a great recommendation! Only problem, on their online menu I didn't see a steak.

I have come to believe that planning is more important if you're not a frequent Disney flyer. I mean, there is always some degree of planning required if you want to eat at sit-down restaurants, but it's not the same. When I was younger, my Dad would plan what parks we were going to hit each day, when we were eating each meal (ADR required or not) and in his mind he and a specific order for rides and attractions. However, since we've been so many times, it's now a matter of knowing which park we will be at, when they open and close, and what time our ADRs are...the rest is TBA. Part of this may have to do with the fact that we have to get a handicap pass for my Mother and therefore do not have to worry so much with attractions running out of fast passes (but then again, we've ridden it all so many times that there are only a few "WE MUST RIDE THIS" rides). Our last trip, we only hit the parks 1 day for rope-drop, and that was only b/c they were releasing a POC4 pin that day. Most of the time, we prefer to get up when we get up, eat at the dining hall at the resort, and the make our way to the park and do whatever till dinner..it's kinda like a plan to be mostly unplanned. I'd have to say I can't imagine what it would be like to do NO planning beforehand- I'd rather err on the side of over-planning than under-planning, but then again the nickname i was given the one time I went with friends was "Disney Natzi"...

I have never had a steak from Perkins but they make some mean Peanut Butter Pie.

Just want to point out that Shari's in Oregon is so much better than Perkins.

I can make no claims as to anything in Grants Pass. But otherwise, yes. All about the pie. Especially fun when they use custard.
