The laptop users also seemed to be taken back by the $19.95 for 24 hrs price when we introduced the service. Most just passed and seemed to find other things to do as well.

These prices are about 4 years old. But you get the idea.

This could be very interesting...at what cost will these smartphone people decide to not use the lil app? Hmmmm.....

I will admit....I brought a laptop on our last vaca.....BUT I needed it for work (yes, I do "working vacations"). That said, I had a Verizon card that I plugged in and used to get a Wi-Fi signal. If that had not worked, my company would have reimbursed me the $20/day for the Internet....they wanted me available at all times. I didn't mind too much...I got to read my email and check my bank account daily. The problems come when I'm in line an have to take a work call on my cell. I don't take the call then....I wait until I get off the ride and then find a quiet area. I can't tell you how many times I would call the person back within 30 minutes and get the "why didn't you answer your cell?" I don't know...maybe because I'm on VACATION!!!! (see, stupid people are everywhere....not just Disney)

And, MAPO, the price is right on (well, at least as of October 2, 2009). :)

At WDW GR in the parks allow people to plug in their electronics. That is the only place guests can plug in things as the outlets they use are specially protected from shorts and all.

DLR is apparently different an doesn't allow guests to plug anything in anywhere. I trust Main Streeter's answer on that.
Now, don't we sell those little battery stick things so they can get a charge off it for like 2 hrs? I thought we had the little gizmos in merchandise.

Merch CMs: Do we have something like that?

I figure if they really, really want that charge then we can charge them the $20 or so for that gizmo. :D:
I remember seeing them in a few shops in the other parks a long time back but I have never seen them in the MK. I haven't seen them elsewhere in a while but I also haven't looked for them so I don't know if they are still available.

I'm surprised WDW doesn't offer free Wi-Fi at the resorts, at least in select areas like the Lobby. A lot of off-property hotels do so why not us? It'd be another perk for staying on property.

I bring my laptop in case I need to unload the memory cards on the camera, in case I have a work emergency and I *have* to work, and just in case I want to catch up on stuff. Option 2 and 3 rarely happen, if at all, option 1 is the biggest reason. I always bring my phone charger and keep an eye on the battery life. I haven't had it die yet!

Nothing is free. To provide "free" Wi-Fi means setting up antennas, providing bandwidth and having someone around to resolve any issues. Funding the service means either adding a few cents to everyone's hotel bill or charging those that want to use it.

Besides, Disney doesn't want guests hanging around the lobby. They want them in the parks spending money.

Yep, TANSTAAFL applies to Wi-Fi. However, folks might be willing to pay a few pennies extra for having access to Wi-Fi.

Hmmm....how about providing Wi-Fi "hot spots" at the parks, then? I know I would appreciate being able to use my iPod Touch to connect up while visiting, if only in some of the restaurants and such.

The last time I saw Wi-fi was at the Mickey and Friends parking structure. It was next to the back stair case. I don't know if it is still there though.

A friend and her husband own the Pioneer Inn at the Lahaina Harbor. They provided free Wi-Fi for a while but it began to be counter-productive. What they found was people off the cruise ships would line up on the sidewalk and use their bandwidth. It brought in no revenue but, in the spirit of aloha, they decided to keep it open.

Then they got complaints from the restaurant manager that people were tying up tables for three hours while on their laptops which impacted his revenue. It was harder to justify but, in the spirit of aloha...

The final straw was when the husband was trying to get around a laptop user sprawled across the stairway leading to to office area. He said, "Excuse me." while trying to step over the laptop user.

The laptop user replied, "Who the hell do you think you are?"

Wi-Fi disappeared from Lahaina harbor about 30 seconds later.
