It was a terrible tragedy, yes! It doesn't mean that a color has to be permanently and completely banned just because of an association that one group of people make. They took the unnecessary step of not reusing it on the monorails themselves and that was very nice and a respectful reaction. To say that nothing should ever be the color purple again is a bit over the top. JMHO
Its not the color that offends me.... its the location! They are doing at the station to which is the location of the incident. I have seen my fair share of death in my years, but i think that it is just the wrong place at teh wrong time... 2 years...5 years...10 years.. ok.... but not 8 months later.
My reasoning for the post was not to start a flame war... and I do like the color purple.. i just feel its to early for that station to get that color. I do agree that the TTC has fallen by the way side and am glad that they are getting onto the Disney look for the grounds... I just feel that they could have done a better job at color matching then that.... just my two sents...

Purple was once reserved for royalty, because the two colors--indigo and cochineal--were very expensive. Indigo dye doesn't dissolve in water very well, and it doesn't stay on cloth too well, either. Cochineal is derived from tiny insects, and it took a lot of them to make enough dyestuff for a garment. Blended, the blue of indigo and the red of cochineal made purple, and thus only royalty could afford to wear clothing made by skillful dyers who knew how to work with indigo. Modern dyes are less expensive and easier to use, but to this day the color purple still carries a royal connotation.

I respect your opinion but strongly disagree with it. If it were painted to say, hey, this is where the crap happened...that's one thing. Just to paint the place doesn't have an iota of connection with the incident and shouldn't be viewed that way by anyone. In the words of Sigmund, sometimes a color is just a color. (or something like that) :D:
Try and remember that the vast majority of the population that will go to WDW now or in the future either have no recollection about what trains were involved or never even knew about it to begin with. These parks are more than one person. Even Walt doesn't get much respect there these days.

Only thing I have to add to this...TTC & the yellow paint scheme HAD to go. I've been watching the progress on the paint and I like it. Almost anything would be better than what it looks like now.
As to the color purple...one of my favorite colors. Like Wallaby said, it's a good color to have around. I'll grab some pics next time I can. I think that when its all done, it will look pretty neat.
When we say "concourse" we mean the Epcot platform at the TTC. Nothing has changed recently at the Contemporary station, and I don't see the mosaic going away at all.
Slightly OT, but on the unload on the Epcot beam at TTC, there's now a large portion of uncovered walkway down the ramp with just lights above and no roof. I'm not sure if Disney is making repairs or if they're going to replace it, but it just seems like it's not the best "show" to do it the way they've done it...

The Doc makes a great point. The location and color change are very sensitive. Yes, the TTC desperately needs TLC! Yes, Disney uses a lot of purple on property. However, the color choice and location are poorly thought out by the new leadership in Transportation.
Also, this is a
CAST MEMBER issue.
That is what we are discussing on this board. You must try to remember that the incident is still very fresh on the minds of those of us who work that area, deal with the guests and the still horrific commentary that comes out of their uneducated mouths!
In addition, you as a
guest here have no right to try to minimize the feelings and opinion of those cast who still are recovering from this pain. Everyone heals in different ways and time schedules. Some may never recover, especially those first responders.
I can tell you that those who have demonstrated that lack of consideration here at WDW are still not tolerated and are dealt with accordingly. Period.
You can have a different opinion. You can state that opinion appropriately. But all will show respect to those varied views. I am sorry but I do not believe that some of these posts have done either.

Goodness, we can't even stay on topic for a flame war. Not that I am complaining. :D:
Now, for what I was going to answer...
disneyprincess1988 wrote:Or maybe it won't happen. Don't get me wrong, I completely disagree with the SG idiots who made those insensitive comments when this happened last year. But maybe enough time has past that some of them have mellowed out and become more sympathetic to the loss.
I do not know when that will happen. Yesterday, I had a whole series of events, the worst being as a couple parents came giggling off my train, Timmy came out, pointed at me, and said, "Oh my GOD! I was so scared! I thought I was going to be crushed and die!"
Not being the type to let this kind of thing go, I got up really close between mommy and daddy dearest, and quietly said so only they could hear, "Guys, you don't need to worry about your son being crushed on the Monorail. I saw it happen, and no guests were hurt that night. Thank you for making fun of my, and my coworkers' loss."
Then I got in the cab and shut the door behind me.
That was the fourth of four incidents.
So far, I have figured out that as long as I remain a Monorail pilot, I can't engage guests the way I used to. The results are too unpredictable.
As far as Concourse and Base, I like the purple. It looks absolutely regal, and I don't care what guests think of it or want to say to us. I've found that As long as I don't talk to guests, I don't have to deal with that kind of thing.
I want the old Cast Member that I was on July 3 back.

You know, I had a long response already done up for this but decided that to continue this line of thought. Would certainly not be respected or understood by Cast Members that are still pained by the incident.
A color is not responsible for the accident, because of that it was not a thought that needed to enter into the minds of those planning the colors. You are all cast members...part of a bigger thing then yourselves. It's an old saying but true...the show must go on.
I am done with this topic...so don't worry about anymore insensitivity coming from my direction...I guess I will just go read some "not coming down for breakfast" threads. You know the ones that make a lighthearted announcement of someones death.

You're doing the right thing by dealing with those insensitive SGs the way that you are. Don't forget to interact with the wonderful, polite Guests like normal as well. Hopefully it will help you.

Feeling for Everyone here.....and it makes me upset that CMs are still being subjected to this kind of abuse  kind of hard to be at peace when SGs keep bringing it up in a very inappropriate way. I do sincerely hope that time will help to heal, though, for all of you who are grieving, and you will get your
lives back to what they were before. Austin probably had no idea of his place in everyone's heart, and would not want you to forget him, but to keep him there and get back to having some happiness again.
