My Dad's sister lived in SM 46 years ago and still does. Sounds like your dad and my Grandpa worked there at the same time (I'm 46 ;) ) My Grandparents lived in Vandenberg Village.
Know have been to Avila Beach when I was a kid, Main Streeter.

Main Streeter wrote:darph, interesting abt Vandenburg. I have a cousin with CIA up there. Fun to go up and wonder with him. When you were living in Orcutt did you ever go to A. Beach? ;) The entire beach we lost in a poker game. Wasn't developed at all back then. That coast area is one of my all time favorite spots. :)
A. Beach doesn't sound familiar. I do remember Pismo beach,Solvang,Ossa Flaca (sp?) and some points north. In 05 I considered cruising up the coast to see the 'old' hood. Oh well, some day. :(

If you've been to Pismo you've been to Avila Beach. Oso Flaco (skinny bear) is in Dunes area right near Guadalupe. We take baja & dune buggies there. Freezing

Even in July!

My first time at Avila Beach was to run a regatta for the local yacht club as they'd never done one before. Nice place. The restaurant in the harbor served huge pancakes.
I haven't been back since the town was leveled and rebuilt to clean up the 40 year-old oil spill that had saturated the ground.

Hey Wombat-sorry for the OT stuff, but your blog does include musings on Life, the Universe and Everything! ;)
Am enjoying your stories very much, looking forward to DLR report.
And What, did VM sing a Barry Manilow Song? (One Voice) Do you have that on You Tube? Would love to hear it! :)

No apologies necessary at all -- it wouldn't be an SGT thread if it didn't go OT!! Besides, the extra posts increase the page count on the topic and make it look like my trip report is
really interesting! :D:
Sorry, DisneyMom, I don't think the Tribute to World Peace medley is available on YouTube. However,
[ShamelessPlug] it is featured on VM's 1997 release, "How Sweet the Sound," available at our online store
here. (And "Can't Smile Without You" is on 2004's "The Vocal Majority With Strings Volume II," available at the
same link.)
