It would truly be a historic occurrence!
I can't wait for the launch that's coming up where we'll be able to see something never before seen: A shuttle on both launch pads.
Oh, and did you know they have all the facilities necessary to launch a shuttle at Vandenberg AFB in California?
Whazzup, if that was around 1984 that you saw the shuttle on the 747, you might have seen Enterprise on its way to the New Orleans Air Show. That's the only reason I can think of a shuttle atop the transport plane landing there.

My Grandfather used to work at Vandenberg AFB in the 60's launching rockets. He used to tell me that there were a lot of wild cats living around the launch area, and after a launch, they would sometimes find, well, crispy critters

They landed the 747 and Shuttle piggy back at Carswell (now Fort Worth NAS or whatever they named it) for fuel. Could be why it was landing at NO.

The 747 wasn't landing at New Orleans, it looked like it might have been descending for a landing at Eglin AFB near Ft Walton Beach, FL, which has a runway long enough for the 747. It was too low to be landing at Kennedy Space Center way over on the east coast, but it was definitely heading east and descending.
It would have been after 1984, and more likely sometime between 1995-2000. Sorry I can't pin it down any closer.
