Re: Time to make a decision!
"Wazungu," got it. I assume that has a slightly different connotation from "bwana."
One thing I would love to do is as I drive up, start talking in Swahili, and then correct myself. I'll have to work with you on that, Kwahati.
Now, a question for Floridian, hhsrat and anyone else who's worked KSR... What was your best way of learning all the animals and their facts? I can probably get about 60% of the names right now, but facts are coming a bit slowly.
Just six more working days of buses.

It was the best I could come up with. Painted the exact picture I wanted.BRWombat wrote:Talk about your mixed metaphors... yet somehow I still completely understood this! :D:

I totally think you should.Kwahati wrote:My roommates and I are talking about buying into DVC.

I'll tell ya, it's a whole lot more likely if you can guarantee me I'll get to buy you a Kungaloosh the next time I'm down there! And we'll need to talk BR Wombat into joining us, too...the Adventurer's Club seems like the perfect place for a wanna-be Aussies only party. :D:Big Wallaby wrote:I totally think you should.[buy into DVC]
Edited to add: the AC also seems like to perfect place to get him liquored up and make him sing for us! (We'll record it so it can be the hidden bonus track on the recording of your bus spiel!)

Actually its an acyronym! The favorite story was, that when planning the name of the tram tour, they were taking input from all of the employees, and they wanted a "african" sounding name. One employee, (for reasons unknown) put in "WHGASA" and every one liked the sound. The first letters are: Well Hoo Gives A .......(you get the idea!) After many years of service, it has been replaced!!Big Wallaby wrote:"Wazungu," got it. I assume that has a slightly different connotation from "bwana."

Re: Time to make a decision!
No matter how much you get me to drink, I will *NOT* sing. That said,
Next time you're here, I'll make sure you have all my contact info. I'll always take a Kungaloosh! or Baldersmash.
Oh, and if you're going to work toward hearing my singing voice, you also need to provide a room. I don't drive after even a single drink... too much risk to my license.

Re: Time to make a decision!
The KSR trainers are pretty good at teaching the animal facts. They have flash cards that you can use to help you learn. Also, don't be too worried about messing up an animal fact. Most of the time, the guests don't know you messed up. My personal favorite that I've committed, I once spieled that a Bongo had a wingspan of up to 8 or 9 feet long. (mixed 2 animals together ... the Bongo is an antelope, the Saddle Billed Storks have that wingspan)

Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long.

Re: Time to make a decision!
I'm looking at the possibility of coming down for that one special event being planned in another sooper-secret thread, so, pending decisions being made, I hope I'll need your contact info relatively soon! I don't know if you caught it in another thread, but I confused a lot of bus drivers (and made my roommates laugh hysterically) by wandering up to them and saying "So...uh...Big Wallaby?" The best answer I got was "No, I'm just happy to see you!" :p:Big Wallaby wrote:No matter how much you get me to drink, I will *NOT* sing. That said...<cut for space>...I don't drive after even a single drink... too much risk to my license.
About the singing, I'm likely to break into song with or without alcohol, and I'd be happy to hear anybody who feels like singing join in! But really I was saying we need to coerce BR Wombat into coming down...I bet we can make him sing!
And about not driving after drinking: Good Boy! We're too old for that crap! (I was young and stupid once, and I'm lucky I lived through it, and didn't hurt anybody else...it turns out you mature a lot between 21 and 27!) Beyond that, though, I'm probably going to have a room with a King bed, otherwise I'd let you stay with me, but I'd be happy to chip in for a cab home for you if we can swing something like that? Once my plans get a little more firmed up, we can discuss. I'm sure we'll work something out! I'd do almost anything to hang out with my favorite SGTers!
Edited to add: my brother in law just got hit by a cab in NYC a couple of days ago (he's okay...he's a tough guy even with a couple broken ribs and a broken arm) but once things settle down again, I'll have my sister write a short, funny spiel in Kiswahili (and the translation) for you to use for your idea. I think it sounds great! Funny too! (If you have an idea, or can develop an idea when you start your training, that'd be a big help. She's pretty much fluent so she can roughly translate something for you if you want to do it that way...) All I know I learned from her, my BIL and various African and UN dignitaries...
