Time for my own SGT:

I'm walking through the Splash Mountain exit area when I see a young man smoking under the train station.

Me: Excuse me sir, but this is a non-smoking area. I need you to extinguish that cigarette immediately.

SG: Why can't I smoke anywhere I want to, huh? I'm tired of these no-smoking nazis!

Me: I understand that, sir. However, you're standing underneath our train station -- and our steam trains are fueled by natural gas. Again, for YOUR SAFETY, PLEASE PUT OUT YOUR CIGARETTE.

To his credit, I don't think I've ever seen anyone put a cigarette out so quickly in my life. :D:

Just to set the record straight, the WDW Railroad's locomotives are fueled with low-sulphur #2 fuel oil, not gas.

The Jungle Cruise boats and Main Street Vehicles are fueled with compressed natural gas. The compressor and loading stations are behind City Hall. Leaks flow downhill and into the storm drains. These drains are all connected on the west side, and the lowest of the all is below the Frontierland RR station. As a result, the area below the station fills with natural gas whenever there's a leak.

Took me a while to convince myself that there weren't any natural gas lines in the area, but the plans are quite thorough. Disbelieve all contrary stories you might hear.

So, the area below the Frontierland RR Station is still a very bad place for a smoke!

(applauding) Thanks Thundercat for the breakdown of restroom to smoking area ratio! That was great, I have to admit I was curious after the statement that smoking areas outnumber restrooms. Thanks again!

That explains why it always smells funny down there! And what I meant to say earlier was I saw no smokers out of place at magic kingdom.

My pleasure - although I must admit, it has changed since I posted it.

The smoking section at the back of the castle (just outside Tinkerbell's Treasures) has been removed. Fantasyland is now completely smoke-free (and as of this posting is the only smoke-free land in the Magic Kingdom).

Dang! That was one of our favorite spots to hit too. I'll have to break the bad news to Mom.

Well it's good news for us...kind of. When we do Wishes and start closing off that area we wont have anyone going "oh come on I need a smoke lemme in!"

I am willing to bet it was removed because of the new banquet/ball/probably additionally roped off activity their doing for the YoaMD, since it takes place in that area (Hello people, we have that big covered pavillion by Ariels Grotto, couldnt you put the ball there?)

But now we get to deal with even more (understandably) irate guests that have to go either to LS or TL for a smoke. :(
