EpcotGolfer wrote:While I agree that the OP was justified with their actions, there are a lot of smokers that are very annoying at the parks. Is it really too much to ask to contain your smoking in a few dozen isolated areas?
Nope. In fact, that's completely the opposite of the point the OP was trying to make. He was in a smoking section when the SG began her little passive-aggressive shtick.
EpcotGolfer wrote:I mean, come on, there are more smoking sections than bathrooms at all of the WDW parks.
Wow... really? That seems wrong. So let's break it down at the MK, shall we?

MAIN STREET
Smoking Sections: 2
Public Restrooms: 3

TOMORROWLAND
Smoking Sections: 2
Public Restrooms: 2

MICKEY'S TOONTOWN FAIR
Smoking Sections: 1
Public Restrooms: 1

FANTASYLAND
Smoking Sections: 1
Public Restrooms: 4

LIBERTY SQUARE
Smoking Sections: 1
Public Restrooms: 1

FRONTIERLAND
Smoking Sections: 2
Public Restrooms: 2

ADVENTURELAND
Smoking Sections: 1
Public Restrooms: 1

TOTAL IN THE MAGIC KINGDOM
Smoking Sections: 10
Public Restrooms: 14

Nice try, though.
EpcotGolfer wrote:And calling them "leper colonies?" Most of them are nice, quiet, out of the way places with shade and/or a good view.
Actually, historically, leper colonies were located in "out of the way places" - one of the most famous was in Hawaii.
EpcotGolfer wrote:If smokers should be able to smoke anywhere, why shouldn't I be able to urinate or defecate anywhere I want to? It's more natural than smoking and at least it (usually) won't kill me.
Yeah, but you defecators have more defecation areas than we smokers have smoking areas (see above).

Time for my own SGT:

I'm walking through the Splash Mountain exit area when I see a young man smoking under the train station.

Me: Excuse me sir, but this is a non-smoking area. I need you to extinguish that cigarette immediately.

SG: Why can't I smoke anywhere I want to, huh? I'm tired of these no-smoking nazis!

Me: I understand that, sir. However, you're standing underneath our train station -- and our steam trains are fueled by natural gas. Again, for YOUR SAFETY, PLEASE PUT OUT YOUR CIGARETTE.

To his credit, I don't think I've ever seen anyone put a cigarette out so quickly in my life. :D:

Just to set the record straight, the WDW Railroad's locomotives are fueled with low-sulphur #2 fuel oil, not gas.

Howsomeever....

The Jungle Cruise boats and Main Street Vehicles are fueled with compressed natural gas. The compressor and loading stations are behind City Hall. Leaks flow downhill and into the storm drains. These drains are all connected on the west side, and the lowest of the all is below the Frontierland RR station. As a result, the area below the station fills with natural gas whenever there's a leak.

Took me a while to convince myself that there weren't any natural gas lines in the area, but the plans are quite thorough. Disbelieve all contrary stories you might hear.

So, the area below the Frontierland RR Station is still a very bad place for a smoke!

LOL Thanks for that, Zazu.... and wouldn't you know it, 'twas a Manager that told me that, too. Guess that explains a lot, huh?

(applauding) Thanks Thundercat for the breakdown of restroom to smoking area ratio! That was great, I have to admit I was curious after the statement that smoking areas outnumber restrooms. Thanks again!

That explains why it always smells funny down there! And what I meant to say earlier was I saw no smokers out of place at magic kingdom.

I also smoke good cigars and will think nothing of dropping a twenty on a single stick. So after I went to the cigar shop, seleced my choice stick and sat down on the far side of the walk under a clearly marked smokeing section next to an ashtray.
Dylan: Stupid question after all of these posts.......... Did you ever get to finish that cigar? :dope:

My pleasure - although I must admit, it has changed since I posted it.

The smoking section at the back of the castle (just outside Tinkerbell's Treasures) has been removed. Fantasyland is now completely smoke-free (and as of this posting is the only smoke-free land in the Magic Kingdom).

Dang! That was one of our favorite spots to hit too. I'll have to break the bad news to Mom.
Keep us posted ThunderCat

Well it's good news for us...kind of. When we do Wishes and start closing off that area we wont have anyone going "oh come on I need a smoke lemme in!"

I am willing to bet it was removed because of the new banquet/ball/probably additionally roped off activity their doing for the YoaMD, since it takes place in that area (Hello people, we have that big covered pavillion by Ariels Grotto, couldnt you put the ball there?)

But now we get to deal with even more (understandably) irate guests that have to go either to LS or TL for a smoke. :(
