So are you looking for a philbeag (great kilt) or a wee kilt? The great kilts are a pain to pleat and get into, but what a wonderfully useful piece of clothing/equipment! BTW, what clan?

The company that made tape back then--1920s, I believe--had a type of tape used by painters which had adhesive only on the edges of the tape, not in the middle. When the sales rep came by a contruction site where this tape was being used, one of the disgruntled painters told him, "Why don't you tell those Scotch bosses of yours to put adhesive on the entire tape?" So they did. And this is why it's called Scotch tape. In this instance, Scotch was used to mean cheap or overly thrifty.
We use that tape with adhesive only on the edges in entertainment, especially tv. It is known as Tunnel Tape, used for taping down cables across traffic areas. It's very expensive, and available in some really wide sizes. Who would have thought that this style of tape went back that far!

One of the folks I worked with at the Poly is also involved with some of the Orlando-area Scottish dance groups, and he might be able to give a recommendation on where to get a kilt. Would you like me to try to get his contact info for you?
