Definitely illusion of safety. Disney's searches are more security theater than anything else. Note, for instance, how they don't search under coats or long skirts. (I'm not saying they should! I'm just pointing out that the cursory bag searches are minimal. Which is fine with me.)TeamUBR wrote:I don't ever remember being searched on exit. in fact, I don't recall being searched on exit to anything that searched going in. TSA doesn't at the airport, races, concerts...
As a guest, I can (sort of) understand the intent to search on entry. The only reasonable excuse I would imagine on exit is you thought I stole something. Entry = Safety (or allusion of). Exit = What are you taking that I don't want you to have!

If you look at the originating post, you should see two links to the information (pretty sure). If not, it was on the blog as a hot link. Can't remember which. I just remember that I read the blog and then read an article in the examiner. *shrug*TeamUBR wrote:Mapo,
You mentioned "both" articles... I only see the one link in the OP. I Googled the story but everything that comes up is a re-hash from the guys web site.
Is there a public link to another story or is this from things that Dis Po have?

I would have no clue what the Dis Po have....

That is the key to the success in this. You can't change how people feel about you, especially when they have been violated like the author had. Had the author gone after the guy without the help of security and management, I would have a completely different take on this story.Gregor wrote:This guy, as well as security, showed proper restraint until more current evidence could be gathered (the castmember’s phone app) to prove this was their guy. I guess it just scares me about what could have been since I see myself on the receiving end of it.
As far as what others think about you, you can't change that. I look at every person I can around me, both out of an enjoyment of watching other people and a slight leftover paranoia (which IS going away, just give it time). You can't tell me that as I take stock of those around me, there haven't been people who saw me doing my people-watching and thought I was thinking different things than what I was. Just the nature of people there.
My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

Gregor wrote:I think it’s a great story and a wonderful ending and all, but I find it a little scary that he fingered a guy on the dock with little evidence. He even said that it was 2-3 minutes since he used the app in his room and the time he got to the dock. He even said that he thought maybe the culprit had already left on another ferry. Yet, he wants to force this guy to allow them search his belongings. Heck, at one point he wanted to punch the guy first and ask questions later. What’s wrong with this picture? Guilty until proven innocent? Scary…
I appreciate the guy's honesty of his THOUGHT PROCESS here. I respect his restraint and wisdom given the situation. Yes he did ask the CMs to search the guy's bag, but what's the harm in asking. He didn't cause a big scene. He remained inconspicuous. And yes, in the end, the combination of aggressive action, speed, persistence, AND restraint paid off and I would bet that this guy has a bullet-proof case against him now.

You will soon be visited by our resident dragon and by a representative of the beverage committee. I'm not sure which order is best -- heat up then cool down, or vice versa -- but you might want to have asbestos clothing on hand just in case.
