Okay, as of this morning I am out of a cast! Yay!
I'm now into the restricted movement boot, known affectionately in our household as the Zazu Boot (tm), since he sent it to me. Yes, I'm actually wearing something once worn by our own beloved concierge/conductor/firefighter Zazu. I'm hoping it will give me special powers or something. :)
I am still using my scooter and not walking, but I can take the boot off and work my ankle on a pedal exerciser, and am clear to start testing it little by little and working back to having my full weight down on it. I go back to the doc in four weeks, and hopefully at that time I'll be ready to start taking some steps.
Best of all, though, I can now take a bath without having to cover my leg in trash bags and packing tape!
I theoretically will be able to drive soon, once I'm confident in my foot's ability to hit the brake pedal hard if I need to. I say "theoretically," though, because as a practical matter, while I'm still using the cart it will be extremely difficult for me to be out on my own. I could probably get up and down into the driver's seat, but I wouldn't be able to put my cart up (in the trunk) or retrieve it when I got to my destination.
So I've got a ways to go still, but I'm making progress!!
