A friend of mine from my church has a really unique business. He'll take your loved one's ashes, put them in some sort of special container, and then place them as part of a man-made reef. Here's a link to his business if you're interested. http://www.eternalreefs.com/

I'm not an environmentalist or anything, but this sounds really cool.

Only if this didn't land on you.

It's the Oriskany. It was sunk off Pensacola to form a man-made reef.

I was so glad when Pensacola got the USS Oriskany. I'm no diver but I felt we needed a reef and that there could be no better place for an aircraft carrier turned artificial reef but off the coast of the "Cradle of Naval Aviation".

Here's a picture of the Big O in her hey day.

And here's one of her after she was scuttled.

While channel surfing a few months ago I ran across the show that showed the preparation and sinking of the "O". It was pretty interesting to see what was required to prep the ship and how long it took for it to go down.

They showed it on the local news, and it's become a very popular dive spot, with lots of superlatives uttered by divers who have gone down to see her.
