Actually, Soarin', like most feature films, was scored *after* the film was completed. It's much easier (well, "easy" if you're an experienced composer) to compose music to match a pre-filmed sequence than it is to take pre-filmed scenes (or even to film them with a score in mind) and edit them together to perfectly match an already-written music piece.

The story I heard is that after his very first ride with a rough-cut version of the film, Jerry Goldsmith (Soarin's composer) was so moved that he said he'd compose the score for free. (I don't know whether Disney actually held him to that promise or not...) ;)

Unfortunately, Jerry died a few years ago, so any future replacement films for Soarin' (such as the still-under-development Soarin' Around the World) will have to be scored by someone else.

Yes, I was VERY sad when I found out he had passed away. Soarin' is in my top-three favorite Disney music selections...the soundtrack is a big part of why I love the ride.

I like the music of the dude who scored Space Mountain and The Incredibles (can't think of his name). I wonder what he'd do with Soarin' Over The World...his music is excellent but his style is much different.

In addition to Space Mountain Paris' Mission 2 and Incredibles, he also composed for Ratatouille, Alias and Lost.

I haven't heard the Mission 2 score, but I loved John Debney's original score. (John also composed for Chicken Little and Emperor's New Groove) Hmmm... Maybe Paris would be willing to let us have the Mission 1 score for WDW's Space Mountain? ;)

I think another theme park composer that would do a good job would be whoever was the composer from Horizons, specifically "Space". (I can't seem to find a definitive answer as to who the actual composer was. At best I get three names)

EDIT: Just found the Mission 2 soundtrack on YouTube... I prefer Mission 1... (And yes, it's *very* much in the style of the Incredibles...)

EDIT #2: Nope... I definitely have it now... Bruce Broughton ala Timekeeper.
