Then they send em over here to attend UC Berkeley!
You know I would hate to be a teacher in the age of the computer and cell phone. It would be maddening. I would be the bitch teacher that would NOT allow computer sources for papers, a student would HAVE to actually use a book from the library to find their info. That would be teaching in itself, having a student learn how to use a library and book!
Whe I attended Vet Tech school 5 yrs a go, we had strict rules about cellphones. One teacher would kick you out of class if your cell phone went off and you would get an absent for that day. NO excuses.
The cell phones were so disruptive during finals and clinicals that it was out of control. When you are trying to figure out the mathematical equation of how much anesthesia gas to administer to a living creature, you don't need the distraction of cell phones going off around you.
It is rude and insulting to your fellow classmates.
I may be an old fogey, but I hate the way computers and cells have taken over our lives. I like the simpler life. (Tho computers are fun to use to post at SGT!) :D: ;)

well, I agree, except that over 90 percent of the "books" in our library are "electronic" versions available to the students on-line. Very handy to do research from home or work. All you need to access is a sign-on student I.D. through the web portal into the system.
A lot of places are going to this format. If you quote a portion for your term paper, it will automatically download a footnote or reference for you to include.
A LOT different than when I had to TYPE mine on a manual typewriter, and spell check was a Funk and Wagnels!! hehehe

I think that is sad. :( I love to use books and read real books. It seems the library is nothing more than a computer database anymore. I love to go through the stacks and just look at books and check them out and bring them home and read them! It is so much fun! A lot is being lost to the computer age, even tho so much is gained as well.
Yeah, it was more work back a few years ago. I still have my portable typewriter and also a Selectric! Funny huh? We had to WORK a long time to put out a term paper! Imagine my 38 page paper on King Arthur and I had over 70 references, all had to be typed by hand...THAT was a long process. Got me an A for the course tho!!!!!
Libraries and bookstores, two of my favorite places on earth, along with the ocean and beach. Lying on the beach under a palm tree, sipping a rum and coke (at least back in the day, now it would be just the Coca Cola or lemonade) reading a good book....nuthin like it!
I wish everyone knew the joy of books. I learned to read before I went to kindergarten. I have loved books since!

As much as I love books and libraries, using the University's database to look up articles was a big help when I needed some "proof" was very helpful. That and the library at my campus was ignored by the larger university.
I graduated last year and I'm hoping that my acceptance letter comes through for a 2nd BA for September; I'm excited to go back to school and go through ROTC but these complaints are making me worry. I only had two incidents where I had to shush students. One girl kept trying to talk to me when I said loudly, "I know you don't care about this class but I do. So can it you twit." After that I was the professor's favorite. When that girl graduated he said that had to have been the dumbest person he had ever met.
The other incident was in my History of Jazz class...this one girl thought it would be a good time to start cutting her nails in class. Ew.

Sorry to steer this thread back on course, but I wanted to find out how CMGuy is doing. Have you had to use my alternate nametag recently? Or did you already give it back to me? I can't remember.

I am in fact, alive. I have been working monster weeks at Soarin' because we have been so understaffed. I got statused full-time on June 15th. I interviewed for trainer last week and I find out next week. Things have been going well at Soarin' and I don't like getting pulled to the boat ride.
Oh, and last wednesday was the big WDW power outage. The entire power grid went down and both theaters were in the air and we were unable to jog the carriages back to load for 20 minutes! It was scary as it was my first 101 experience while I was in gates. Just an FYI, if you are in a Soarin' gate and the Gate signs start blinking SOS in morse code, be prepared to wait.

Wow. I guess Congratulations are in order :D: ; and given how much you know about Soarin' (over California :p :) , let me just say I'm sure you'll make Trainer with no problem.
And I can see where you're coming from with regards to getting pulled to the-attraction-that-shall-not-be-named. Ever since I was Cross-Trained, I don't like being pulled to Host either, it just seems boring and dull compared to Cash.
