Oh please...People will try anything to get money these days. We need a whole threrd devoted to stupid lawsuits. I am sure we all could come up with enough to make the thread the longest in history! LOL!

I get so infuriated when I hear of these ridiculous and frivolous lawsuits. People these days are so sue happy. It started with that idiotic McDonalds coffee one where the woman WON and it paved the way for people to try their own version of win the lottery from a company with deep pockets. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....

I am glad Shamu was exonerated. He shouldn't be dissed like that!

The only good thing that I have seen, is that there are more lawsuits (the Stoopid kind) are being either dismissed by judges, or are being lost in the jury! Plus there has been a backlash, in that some places are enacting "caps" on how much you can be awarded for pain and suffering!

I think Wombat would have some input on this!

I think the latest winner was the ALJ from Washington who sued his cleaners for $65,000,000 for a lost or damaged pair of pants. Not only was he a laughingstock, but the agency he worked for fired him for bringing discredit upon them and that he could not function as an ALJ because of the attitude he showed.

Most higher-ups I've worked with long ago learned not to ask me if taking a particular action with "keep us from getting sued." My stock answer is that there's no such thing. It doesn't take a legitimate reason to file a lawsuit, just a filing fee. There's plenty of idiots out there with warped creativity and a sense of entitlement, and sad to say they'll usually find a lawyer who'll help them. The correct things to ask about any action are, is it legal? is it defensible? and is it a good idea? You do what's right and hope the idiots ignore you.

The only thing worse than that is a whack job who is pro se. We've got one in our neighborhood association that has sued everybody for everything. It's been dragging on for over ten years. He even sued his real estate agent claiming RICO violations.

I went to one hearing to see who he was. He started out sounding like Foghorn Leghorn. That lasted about thirty seconds. He then started screaming at the association lawyer. It was so bad the judge called a bailiff in in case he went nutz.

The correct things to ask about any action are, is it legal? is it defensible? and is it a good idea? You do what's right and hope the idiots ignore you.

And document all three in triplicate. Having a hard copy of all the "discussions" detailing all the work to make sure of all three above criteria can go a long way towards showing "all due diligence". I love the court shows on TV and so often a weak arguement wins when they have documentation showing they tried every possible way to solve the problem before resorting to the courts.

Actually, he had a 10-year appointment that was up for renewal. Usually, if you're going to do something stupid, you would be well-advised not to do do it when you're most vulnerable (but then again, if you're well-advised, you're probably not stupid?...).

True..I'm wondering if some of the lawyers that had judgements by him are starting to appeal, based on his faulty logic of the 26 Million dollar cost of his suit pants? Guese he didn't shop at the mens fashion depot!!!
