GRUMPY PIRATE wrote:WOW that is suprising. We have been AP's for many years now, but when we go, its usually DW and I so we don't notice people being SG's, and wouldn't know if the hold AP's! Thats too bad!! Perhaps they should institute "pulling" the AP's from people that are habitual complainers, as it wouldn't seem worth the hassel to the CM!
Like I said before, the only thing I get "extra" is a small discount on some stuff, but I get the same discount on a Disney CC! (oh, and "advanced" notice of stuff going on sale!)
I think (with no data to back up my feelings) that the difference may be how close the APs live to the parks. I suspect that the majority of the DL APs are held by people who live within an hour of the parks, and a high percentage of those within a mile or less. This would give the AP holder more of an attitude that this is a "personal recreation" park and thus they feel they own the park. Much like you would concider the use of your local park district park. In that later park you would expect them to cater more to the nearby residents than to visitors passing through. So it comes out in an attitude of "I live here and so you owe it to me to make me happy". If you are "walking around the corner to the park" you may have the idea that you come first and the hords from outside the neighborhood need to get out of your way.
At WDW, the majority of APs are actually held by people who live out of state (and many out of country). If you have to travel a couple of hours or more by car, or take an airliner, the visit is much more of an event and a "vacation". Thus an AP is more of an indicator of being knowledgeable enough to recognize the monetary savings (and a few possible discounts) over other passport types. We know we are there as a visitor (albeit a frequent visitor) and thus any little benefit we gain is a plus. Of course there will always be those who will always be a pain. Who seem to feel they deserve to be the king of the world and are not happy unless they are treated as if they were. These are generally the more outrageous SGs we laugh at here. But luckilly those are in a vast minority.
I have no proof of my speculations above, but it seems to make sense in my head (I know, not a real solid recommendation). Any other ideas or "factors" to add to the speculation?

Just look at Glendalais's signature! That right there says it all!
Interstingly enough, as much as Ralph and I go to DL, we don't have AP's!
I think we should get them this next trip, because we are planning at least 3 more trips within the 1 year period, just after Labor Day, Christmas again, (!!!) you would think we had enough of holidaytime at DL, but Noooooooo...we love it there!) and of course, my birthday next January again. I am hoping we can do Club 33 again! We can turn our parkhoppers in when we get there and pay the difference for APs! Do they do that. Give you credit for your Parkhoppers toward the AP? I know I heard that somewhere. Could be one of those urban myths!
We definitely will save money and get those awesome discount coupons they give APs. We have just never really thought about it while we are at the parks We get too caught up in the fun and then remember when we get home.
I know you can buy them online or by phone, but Ralph likes to buy most things in person!

I once went to WDW with a friend who had recently married a massage therapist. She gave us shoulder rubs while waiting in line - now there is an opportunity to make some major money! I would pay a lot to repeat that experience - hmmmm . .. the newest AP perk?
And no, I'm not special because I'm an AP holder. I'm special because I'm A DVC member! Bahahahaha!

Maybe we should start a new thread... "Why I'm special..." :D: I've got a few shares of Disney stock, after all, and, and... Okay, I guess that's about it.
Oh, wait, I'm also a member here! If that doesn't merit special treatment, what does? :D:

I wore an SGT hat my whole trip and didn't get any special treatment.
Wait. maybe I got special treatment for the SGT hat and nothing for the anniversary button. That must be it. See, we are special. :D:
Post 19 in the WDW section, Freebies thread will tell you everything my hat, er, button got us.

That would probably be Proctor & Gamble. It was claimed their corporate logo was a satanic symbol. It eventually turned out to be a bunch of whack job Amway reps that were trying to crush the competition.

There is an old adage: familiarity breeds contempt. In a Disney park, everyone is treated with care and respect, as a special and welcome guest (at least, this is our goal!). For much of the dumb-masses, this is the only time they are treated as if they matter. They may be offered special seating if it available and the CM responsible thinks it appropriate. But then the next time they come they begin to expect the same perks. You would think that APs would soon learn the rules of the parks. But more often they learn how to get around them. I'm not an AP. Don't need one. Since we've lived in Florida we've always had a family member with a Main Gate and now I have one as a seasonal part-time. I know things to do and ask for - Monorail cab, Liberty Belle pilot house, etc. - but never fuss if I'm told sorry. I treat each day at the park as a guest as a privilege and a blessing. I wish it were the same for the dumb-masses with the AP.

If you are lucky enough to be at Disney, you're lucky enough.
