While I think she didnt need to cause so much of a scene, I love bucking the system. Any system.

One of my friends is a AP. She buys the most expensive passes for her and her family. Recently she goes to City Hall and makes a stupid complaint to see if she can get compted. I now hear if you complain too much, City Hall will buy back the passes. HA, HA, on her. ;)

That's actually a good business strategy. Why put so many resources into trying to placate a very small percentage of your customer base. One part of selling is realizing when to walk away from customer or deal that will be drain on the company's resources without revenue coming in to offset it. At the last company I work for we turned down Walmart's business because they wanted so much but didn't want to pay anything for it.turkeyham wrote:I now hear if you complain too much, City Hall will buy back the passes. Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.

Last night Becky and I went to a Benihana's for Valentine's Day. There was a couple at our table who'd obviously been there many times before, and had very particular requests about each and every little thing -- no mushrooms in the soup, cut the onions and zucchini into small pieces, on and on and on. Then as the meal went on, which as you probably know is more for the show than for the food, it was obvious that they wanted everything to be finished and on their plate before they'd start, so they were urging the chef to hurry! Eventually they complained that their food was cold by the time the last part was finished -- duh! -- and walked out on it.
The kicker was that they told the manager, "We come here every week!"
Now, it may have been a little slower because of the full tables at Valentines Day, but it wasn't noticeably more so than the other times we've been there. Why come back over and over if you don't like how they do things???

True. You don't go to Benihana for the food. If you have a local place you don't go Benihana at all. You go for the performance and the drinks.
The food is just to keep you relatively sober. If you have enough people with for a whole table, all bets are off on the sober thing.
I should go pack now. Our ride comes in 4 1/2 hours.

I encountered something like that the last time I was at the local Hibachi Restaurant. This lady ordered shrimp and scallops. The chef brings out the food to cook and goes over everyones order not once, but twice, and each time she confirms thats what she orders. The way the chef prepared the food, the scallops happened to be the last thing he grilled. He goes to put them on her plate and she starts having a fit because she ordered shrimp and chicken. The chef just stood there for a few minutes just amazed that she not only ordered them, but confirmed it twice. He tried to correct it by going to get some chicken to make for her, even after he had fully cleaned the hibachi. She kept going with her fit until he fixed things on the bill.BRWombat wrote:Last night Becky and I went to a Benihana's for Valentine's Day. And big surprise here, after the bill is fixed and paid, on the way out, I see her greatly enjoying her scallops with a smug look on her face. Of course, she had a little kid with her.....another kid taught how to exploit the system.

Hobie, have you ever read The Wal-mart Effect? It's a great read, and exposes how Wal-mart screws all their suppliers, big and small, and why so many manufacturers have gone to Asia.
