I don't know much about that era as it was way before my time but I've heard of protesters like that. This person hadn't even seen action of any kind and was being called a baby killer. That's not right. Fresh out of boot camp and being yelled at and insulted merely because he was wearing a Marine uniform.

I might not support our being in Iraq but I do support our troops are just doing the job they were told to do.

That was not uncommon for the times. The protesters were always outside the gates of major military bases. Quite a few "hippies" learned the hard way what happens when a combat trained servicemember with a few beers in him can do!

The most vivid memory that I have was on the second Christmas eve I was in (and the first one away from home) we were having a midnight service. We had the luxery of having a chaplain on the ship. We were singing "Silent Night" and it went: Silent Niiight (boom) Holelllllly Night (boom) All is Callllm(boom) The Booms being the ships guns blasting rounds on a village that had VC. I was detailed to the army helicopter the next day and saw what was left... I learned the meaning of Ironic that day!

This discussion makes my stomach hurt...That war ...the dirty politicians... the brave patriotic young men and women that had no idea that the dirty politicians would turn and run in the end...and leave more than 58,000 dead American soldiers and God knows how many wounded, physically and psychologically, so much so that repercussions are being felt today. I always get queasy and morw than angry when that war comes up. It was a national shame what the Politicos did to our young people over there. And the misinformed and stupid radicals that blamed the young people who simply loved their country and felt they were doing what they were supposed to as their fathers had done in WWII and Korea. It was not the same world and definitely NOT the same war! :(

I can handle the teasing. One of the few things I love about this store is that we laugh and joke with each other.
