I must be a rare breed, because I don't really want diamonds. I like shiny things, but mostly my Disney pin collection or twinkly Christmas lights. I have never been big on jewelry. I like more *natural* stone type pendants like crystals and turquoise. Never have been into diamonds. I have 2 pair of earrings, diamonds that Ralphie got for me and they are very small, sweet, modest posts. And my wedding set, very small and discreet. I just don't like the big gaudy jewelry. I like to shop in Boulder at the hippy stores where I find my crystals to wear. They are purty! I am just too much of a hippy at heart! Barefoot and flowers in my hair and crystals around my neck! :hippie: but then so is Ralphie too much of a hippy in his heart. His hair is longer than mine! It is down to the middle of his back and he keeps it in a ponytail. :hippy:
I usually tell him to get me a Barnes and Noble giftcard for Christmas and my birthday. I love to read! And we do go to DL for Christmas. :bouncemic : That is our big holiday expense.
So NO diamonds for this kid! Ralphie has it easy...

When Liz and I were getting married, I had a ring made for her at one place, didn't tell her, but I took her to look at rings. The one I was making, I had them put out on display. It had one diamond and a sapphire on either side. Took her to the store to see it, and she thought it was really nice but then moved on.

We went to another store where they had Moisenite diamonds (.0001 hardness off from real diamond, and from a large meteorite... so not man made, but not real diamond either), and she couldn't take her eyes off it. She kept coming back to it, and loved it.

I quietly told the clerk to hold that ring, sneaked back when she went to the bathroom, and cancelled the other order.

The original ring was over $2,000. The ring I got her was about $500.

She always gets comments about how sparkly it is. She loves that thing.
