Whazzup wrote:It's been several years, and the shuttle looked "well-used." It might have been Challenger or one of the others, I really can't remember. Can't even remember if the name of it was visible on the side of the shuttle. I just remember it was really cool that we got to see it so close. It must have landed on the west coast and they were flying it back to Kennedy Space Center.
Columbia burned up on re-entry over Texas in 2003.

Not to be a smart ass, but all shuttles do look "well used" after re-entry.

Do you happen to remember a date ?

You are correct. If the weather is bad in KSC, the shuttle will land at Edwards AFB. I believe one or two shuttles landed at White Sands, NM, and WS is a 3rd option to land if absolutely necessary.

I mentioned well-used as opposed to shiny and new and never-been-flown. I can't even recreate in my head how long ago it was. Actually, I think we were coming back from the casinos in Biloxi, as we've done that a few times and only been to New Orleans once since I hooked up my with DH. I would guess at least 6-8 years ago, maybe more.

I wish I could get you a copy of that poster, Shorty82. I had it framed and hanging in my office and several people wanted it. I had to pull in a few favors to get it. I knew the Hospital Corpsman who worked with the Blue Angels at the time and he got it for me.
I'm not sure what the current poster looks like. Last one I saw (last year) was the Blues flying over Kittyhawk to commemmorate 100 years of flight or something like that.

No problem. :) If you could nail down the approximate date (even month/year), you can go to the NASA site and figure out which mission it was, and determine which shuttle it was. :)

Yaaaaaaaaaaahoooooooo! I would probably look like Slim Pickens on the bomb in the Dr. Strangelove movie, riding the front of the jet while Ralphie tried to get me to crawl back inside.
It might be better to find a VTOL jet. If you take a jet to WDW you still have to land it at an off site location. But I think that there is enough of the STOL (Short Take Off and Landing) field unused that a VTOL (Vertical TOL) jet could find room to land. All you would have to do is get it in there without the powers that be catching you using a closed field, and then make arrangements for BW or Cran to happen by to pick you up and take you to your resort. ;) :D:

To show you how much WDW has invaded my mind, My first response was "World Showcase is a 3rd option?!?"
