FWIW, the visit in the pictures above was mid-afternoon. Plenty of time for Pooh & friends to get to & from the Crystal Palace between lunch & dinner. :D:Big Wallaby wrote:Hmm. So Pooh hops around from park to park almost as much as Mickey. I've seen him many times backstage at Epcot.

Awesome! My suggestion? When you buy those wires for the insulation, go to the electrical dept and get the metal staples for electrical wire. Get some crazy glue gel, push the staple in to create a hole, then put some of the crazy glue on the staple, and push it into the rigid foam. Don't push all the way in, and you now have a "hook" to wrap those wires around. A little bit of searching (different store ?) and you might be able to find the staples that have a rubber coating around them (except for the points). That will keep them from rusting.vixen101485 wrote:They are super easy to make. That blue insulation foam doesnt crumble when cut like regular foam so you can actually carve them and everything. I used cheap acrylic matte (not gloss) paint from Walmart (apple barrel brand--like 50 cents a bottle) and sponges to paint with. A little messy but fun and dries quick. Just spread it on and blot some details. I dont coat them and add some moss green for well....moss. I have had a few for 3 years now and they look like they did when I first did them. Some blue is showing thru in tiny spots on a few but it looks neat like that. I love that a leaf or 2 sticks to them and makes an imprint, makes it look more real. I use permanant markers on some for the writing and others I carve the letters and daub in dark color before painting the rest of the stone.
I keep the backs unpainted and use the thin wires you are supposed to use for putting up the pink attic insulation (they come 100 in a box for like 6$--I buy new each year siince they rust) To hold them up, I stick one of the wires in the ground(2 for the bigger stones), lean the stone against it and use packing tape to hold it in place. The tape wont hold to the painted surface as well. We had huge winds yesterday afternoon and it has held in snow also. Once in a while one goes down. Not a big to throw another piece of tape on it real quick.
I didnt want to put the wires up inside so as not to poke thru the stone (ruined a few that way when I used thinner foam) I would recommend at least an inch thick or so to prevent breakage. I have had folks offer me money for them... Yeah like I have any time to make extras. :D: I can get about 25 out of one sheet of foam. Big to very small (which I stick in flower pots on sidewalk--mini graveyards)

Have to remember that! We usually never head anywhere near Dinoland. But I do wish I could get a picture with Pooh when he is in his "British safari costume" (the one with the white hat and white vest or shirt).BRWombat wrote:My favorite is in AK, down the path on the right just before you reach Dinoland. There was hardly anyone there (a cast member was out on the main path trying to drum up "business" for the meet-and-greet).

If it was just a dead, bleeding deer, it wouldn't be dead, now, because it was still bleeding. So therefore, it is actually a dying, bleeding reindeer Christmas decoration. I think it's awesome.
I think you people are sick.

Nah, if I was sick, I'd have figured out how to engineer it so it's twitching.bonniehoy wrote:I think you people are sick.
I'll work on that for next year :)

I like that suggestion. Just slide them over the stiff wires. I may do that for some of the lighter weight ones. I store them stacked so the staples would push into the fronts of the one below it. They get rather heavy stacked. Give me a few and I will get the pics up.leftcoaster wrote:Awesome! My suggestion? Re: Halloween!
If you'd like some semi-permanent supports for the tombstones that don't look silly from the back, go to the entrance of any subdivision and pull up a couple of the illegal advertising signs. The ones made from corrugated plastic with the "H" shaped wire support are best. Trash the sign, stuff the "H" up into the bottom of the tombstone, then plant.vixen101485 wrote:I like that suggestion. Just slide them over the stiff wires. Being galvanized, they may last more than one year. They're cheaper than the store-bought wires, there's an apparently unending supply, and you'll be doing your part to beautify your neighborhood!

LMMEO....thanks for the suggestion Zazu.
In the meantime here are some pics of this years set up. I think we are going to attempt an actual haunted courtyard for next year if I can get the neighbors to help.
Ignore all the junk on the front porch...lol
Daytime shot of most of it.

Nightime shot of the same
