I actually live in Washington DC now, but I was born in San Mateo, grew up for a while in Redwood City, was stationed in the military later at the Presidio of Monterey, still had family until recently in the east bay, have family still out in Palo Alto (Menlo Park), San Jose and a couple other places...also down in Beverly Hills, but even they hate LA (My Grandfather still gets the San Fransico Chronicle delivered down there!) I went up to Seattle for college though...

YAY! For the SF Chronicle! I LOVE that paper. Jon Carroll is still one of my favorite writers. I love his columns about mondegreens. There are websites devoted to those. "Scuse me while I kiss this guy" Misheard lyrics!
I read it on the web, home delivery for the Chron is outrageous in Denver and you get it VERY late! I was raised in humble Concord, while a youngster, but spent a lot of time in Oakland and San Francisco. My dad worked for the City of Berkeley! YIKES!!! Then I eventually then made my way north. I also attended Cal State Hayward for a short time before deciding to go north to Granola State and Major in English with a concentration on communication in radio broadcasting. I was a Psych major for a time at Cal State Hayward, one of the best schools for lab and research Psych back in the early 70's. I was Criminal Justice/Psych major when I first got into college, wanted to be a cop or a Parole Officer, but did an internship in Berkeley with a Parole Officer and that killed my desire to work with criminals! That was 1972. I spent 9 yrs in college, a professional student! I LOVED it! Put off going out into the "real world" for a while. Did finally graduate from Granola State and HAD to go to work in radio after numerous other jobs that paid the rent! LOL!

Hey, my brother lives in Sisters, Oregon, near Bend. He LOVES it there. He has a catering and barbeque biz there called "The Left Handed Chef"

Oh, I dated a guy in college who lived across the street from Bing Crosby's estate down there near PA. That really expensive town down there, I am having a brain fart right now, cannot think of the nameof that enclave there The father of the kid I dated was Vice Pres of Pepsi on the West Coast! All the people who lived in that enclave were big mucky-mucks. I went to his house for New year's Eve and jeeze, I got lost in that house. We have 6000 sq ft in our house here, but that monster home was 4 or 5 times this size! My ex boyfriend eventually moved to San Mateo after he graduated. I( always liked going to shows down at Mountainview. Saw a LOT of great bands there, Jimmy Buffet, The Dead and lots of others...

This thread has turned into biography thread. I LOVE it! I love to hear about all of the other folks here! More stories about your checkered and uncheckered pasts! More! More! It is great to learn about our fellow Disney loving posters on this site! :D:

I've heard of his business! I love Sisters, too. Bend is nice, and home of the most beautiful plane I know of, the Lancair IV-P. Of course, we've already covered that ground, so I won't do it again. But I do love spending time in Bend and Sunriver and all those places off the beaten path of I-5.

You haven't lived until you've taken the hike up to Bagby Hot Springs and just had a nice, long soak.

I was cracking up and Ralphie was still in shock. I don't think he has ever seen people put food away like that before! And he WAS worried they would eat ALL the food! LOL! Hey, it was in the concierge lounge and you can eat "all you want" I guess they did! LOL! I solomnly swear not to be PC like that again! It is icky!

That's it!!!! I could not for the life of me remember that name this morning. Thanks, Hobie one six Kenobi! I remember talking a walk on that NY Eve and going down the road and my friend pointing out Bing's spread there. THAT is A VERY nice hood! LOL! :D:

If there could be such a thing as old money in the San Francisco area, Hillsborough would be where they live. With Silicon Valley minting so many millionaires and a few billionaires, you'll find the new money in Atherton, Menlo Park, Palo Alto and Saratoga. The VCs like to hang in Woodside and Portola Valley so the can do deals over breakfast at Bucks and ride their horsies.

My sister lives in Redmond, just north of Bend. I was born and raised in Gresham, a suburb of Portland. Also lived in Hawaii for 10 years when ex was in the Army, then we retired there. Couldn't afford land and wanted horses so we sold our tiny Hawaiian house on our tiny leasehold lot at a huge profit and moved to Florida and bought a nice house on seven acres. And here I am.

Hobie - do they still have fee simple and leasehold land there?
