It's been a while but I think it was...and if it was you, GOOD FOR YOU!!! Know that at least two guests (hubby and I) were silently applauding you, and I imagine that more probably were too. I think going on the PA should be standard procedure (actually, I think ejector seats would be even better, but I suppose that doesn't jibe with safety).

Yeah, I don't know why they changed it. When I was trained at Soarin' I was told to go on the PA if people were using cameras... But then at some point a month later... they were like "No don't do that." They never really explained why, so I still do it, because it's not like there are ever managers around there anyway, and I would be ten times more annoyed by flash photography than by someone saying over the PA "This is just a reminder that there is no photography of any kind during Soarin', Thank you!"

When people take flash pictures on Pirates, I sit and yell at the backs of their heads, and I am so grateful when someone mentions that there's not photography on the PA. It doesn't happen often enough, if you ask me. Flash photography ruins most rides.

Last several times I went on Pirates, I've set up my Speedlight as a remote, set so that it will go off if a flash goes off. Then I turn it toward the boat behind me and let them set it off. The first couple times, they wonder why the hell their camera doesn't seem to be working, then they see what is going on and generally stop.

I still think that it would be fun to make an array of high intensity IR LEDs that attaches to the back of my hat. Digital cameras see IR light while the human eye does not. So the camera would see bright light and set the exposure to that, causing under exposure and no flash, or just be blinded by the bright "white" light. But the light would not even be noticed by the innocent people around the SG.

The main problem with that is that it would also play havoc with the cameras the operators use to keep an eye on things. They'd see a bright light and probably would make announcements to turn the light off.

Ok, then what about this. Replace the flash tube from that slave flash that was being used to "get the point across" with the IR array. It would only "flash" when the other flash was going off and cause the photos to be over exposed. It would only go off when the flash was going off (which the CMs are apparently ignoring) and would still not blind any innocents.

Sounds like you guys need an IR "firefly" that attaches to a 9 volt battery, and is used to "mark' things in the dark!

They come in VERY handy at times!
