I thought it was kinda nice to have a little girl smile and ask " are you a real fireman?" during a recent false fire alarm. I replied " yes I am " She then asked for my autograph! I was flattered.

As a cast member I've had a couple great experiences with some of the characters. One time while I was still in ODV, I was a stocker and pushing around a cart of ice. Alice and Madhatter were signing autographs just outside the gate I came out. The Hatter then made a comment for the guests to please step aside as ice was coming through, as I passed him I loudly pronounced "Why thank you, and have an ICE day" him and all the guests started laughing.

My next one was with Alice again, during my lunch break from scheduling (we get an hour), I decided to go visit Alice because she (the cm) was a friend of mine, she was hanging out at Coke Corner with the kids, we then proceeded to tell jokes to the kids and play a round of musical chairs, the kids and the parents were delighted. Which leads me to believe that the best time to catch characters is when they are not at their "usual" locations. :D:

At Pirates of the Caribbean, we have what are called "optimized tasks" which means you're back from break but there's no place to put you. Happens a lot when we're overstaffed. Usually being optimized means we sweep the floors or park strollers, but we're also allowed to take a pirate hat and a sword and go play pirate out in front of the attraction.

I love doing this -- it's just like being a face character because I totally get into it, not even breaking character to give directions. ("Ahhh, matey, the restrooms be over yonder!")

On the fourth, I got a chance to play pirate once and I was in rare form. All the parents and kids started surrounding me to get my autograph and a picture. Was a lot of fun until one parent asked, "who are you supposed to be?" She didn't ask rudely or anything, but it made me think, if you're wondering who I'm supposed to be, then why are you so keen on getting my picture and autograph? I thought it was pretty funny.

You could always tell them that you're Smee's cousin, Joe Schmoe. ;) :D:

A couple SGT from yesterday:
1) Goofy was walking around Town Square and some very large woman with a mullet yelled "GOOFY, YOU'RE FIRED!!!" so he turned around, and the lady said "That's Right!! Now get over here and take a picture!!!!" Goofy's host said "Ma'am, here, we dont disrespect the characters, have a great day!" and led him away.

2) Goofy was still walking around Town Square when a lady rudely shoved her children in his path for a picture. Goofy posed, but was still walking, when the lady went into his face and said "STOP!! Okay?! Just STOP!!! DAMN YOU!" Goofy looked at her, and took a giant step to the right and continued walking.

Copied from another post of mine, but apropos here:

 Guests (hopefully me excluded) can be rude and mean...I'm sorry you had a bad day.....I almost always forget to take MJ's picture if she will consent to seeing a character, for us it is ALL about the interaction....
